I'm handing out INSIGHTFULS like CANDY!

Come One, Come All...And Please Family Members Feel Free to Jump in ANY TIME!

You know what I was just thinking? I'm baring my soul here, and my whole life story is gradually unfolding as I write these articles, BITTERSWEET as it is. Thank you all for leaving comments, and giving me invaluable insights.

Now I want to ask, Now that all of these strangers have peered into my soul, Where is my family???

I've seen a couple of my in-laws here once or twice, and I thank them wholeheartedly for wanting to get to know the lass who married their darling John.

As for my own extended family...Are you all ever going to learn how to use the internet??? You have links to our family website & to my blog. I haven't heard from a single one of you. I feel like you don't even give a damn about me. I've tried to get you to overcome your fears of computers.

I want to talk to you! And I want you to see inside my head just like all of these strangers have. If strangers can appreciate what I've got on my mind, certainly my family might be remotely interested...I can only hope. I know life is busy, and blogging is an infectious hobby that many people haven't discovered yet...but oh, how enriching it can be.

Don't feel too bad Angela, I included the URL to my blog in this years "New Years" letter to all my friends and family. So far, the only person who seems to have visited is an Army Buddy from the Ft. Bragg days, who is now living in Texas. ;~D

Blood may be thicker than water, but Blog seems to be too thick to ask for!! ;~D

Once you get a few of them to blog a bit on their own they tend to cascade in... takes a while though...

Maybe it's the military folks who are more JoeUser-inclined, wanting to reach out to others due to being separated so often.

On a tangent, I met Life-Happens & Hyperborean Wanderer from my Army days. So far I hope they don't mind if I've unofficially adopted myself into their online family. They seem to have a whole lot more to say than my own family ever could.

Just a thought: If you want to stay in contact with your family, wouldn't that be easier if you chose a medium that you both feel comfortable with - like the phone, or letters? Learning how to deal wih new technologies isn't easy for everyone. But I guess you've already tried different methods, otherwise you probably wouldn't come to a conclusion that they didn't care abou you ...?

As a side-note, the mother of my ex-wife, about 60 years old, decided to learn how to use computers and the internet. Having no experience whatsoever, she entered my name in a search engine and was led to a Star Trek email role playing game I participate in. From that moment on, she believed firmly that I had fallen to an evil sect, which forced me to perform services in order to gain or maintain "ranks", and that I was being brainwashed to impersonate a false identity. I had *no* chance to explain to her what was really going on, no matter how I tried. So it's not always a good thing when your family discovers the internet ...

Yeah, I've done letters & snail mail. As we live on the other side of the world from our family, phone calls get pretty expensive. Plus, I'm a lousy conversationalist, verbally. As I'm a full-time mommy, writing one personalized letter for each and every family member on a periodic basis and schlepping them to the post office (we don't have the luxury of a mailbox in front of our home) gets rather tedious. I must admit, I've been spoiled by this "new" email technology. All of my friends & their geriatric parents communicate on the internet. Just mine haven't caught on yet. And since I've discovered blogging, I've been pleased how fluidly my thoughts flow here, and I love getting feedback and having conversations like this. So, I simply wish that my family would catch on to it.

That's funny.
