The most stupid win - Ever

The game was going along nicely in a 8x8 galaxy with about 20 useful planets, myself being so good it hurt, while the remaining Yor & Drengin were both sort of demonic and allied. Then the Yor did the great invert alignment trick; demonic to saintly in 1 month. Strangely they remained allies (for a while).

In view of the inevitable conflagration to come I had been building up my military - a few Overlords & Avatars, lots of Phoenixes and a host of Combat Transports.

Then all of a sudden there were a zillion red Corvettes everywhere the Drengin had a regime change and picked a fight with me - big mistake!

So I had a word with the Yor who were keen to ally themselves with me, the next month they joined the fray.

My turn first, so a turkey shoot on the Corvettes. The four Drengin Stars were not close together but I was able to get enough transports in to take 3 of their stars within about 6 turns leaving the poor Drengin with just one planet.

For a laugh I went to the diplomacy screen to see just how eager the Drengin were for peace, I offered peace in exchange for all their techs, money and their last and only planet!

They agreed!! - All your base are belong to us - Game Over - Insert Coin.

Does this sort of thing happen often?

Why didn't you report your score to the Metaverse?

Only a dial-up at home, nice broadband at work, I hardly ever go on-line at home. The score was a bit over 19,000, quite silly really.

Congrat on that victory, try to submit the points I also have dial-up at home and I send my games that way. If you are looking for an empire to join, there are plenty of them to choose from. Go to the empire forums in the column to your left and click there under empires and pay a visit to the recruiting treads from the different empires. It is nice to be part of one of them, special talks, forums (some of them) etc.

Have fun with your new game. ;)

It doesn't happen only on lower levels. I had it with the Torians once. Except I asked for 3 of their planets, not just one. Can't remember whether it was crippling or maso.
I never tried it again because it really feels cheap.

I don't know what the trick is to change alignmnents, but I keep alliances with evil races all the time, and I'm always good. In fact, I find the Drengin make great allies. They like to fight, I don't.

I'm course, our ultimate destinies don't lie together, and our alliance will end when it's no longer convinient. :-)

i had something like that with the altarians, they turned on me, i wiped out 3 of their 9 planets, and all their military. then went for peace and i scored 5 planets and everything else they had, but they wouldn't give me that last planet - why? because it had 4 PQ20+ planets, i wouldn't give it up either ;)

that was on maso, small, abundant.

But in this case they did give me their last planet, thus ending the game in a bit of an anticlimax.

On the subject of stars with loads of good planets, I recently attacked a star with 3 PQ22 planets all with defences upto Omega, it took over 30 combat transports to smash my way in! Thats an awful lot of (dead) marines and made a noticable drop in my overall population!

I like that feature. When you have someone way down and weak, they'll beg for peace with everything they have. It saves the trouble of mop up and helps eliminate some tedium.

I had an annoying win in my last game. There I was, the entire galaxy at my mercy and only the (saintly) Drengin and the Scottlingas left. The Drengin had built a whole buncha starbases in my territory.

Of course, by this time, I had 250-odd colonies to their 13. They had a huge military (for the number of planets they controlled). So I built a colony smack in the middle of one part of their fragmented empire. 1 million people. That was enough to cause a chain reaction which flipped half their colonies to me!

They couldn't sustain their military, and were spiralling into debt at the rate of about 3K BCs per turn. So me being the nice guy I am, offered to take a few starbases and ships off their hands for cash. But they wanted obscene amounts....so I just surrounded their remaining sectors with Excaliburs and then sent 5 to wipe out their fleet.

A few turns later they surrendered! Cowardly aliens...and I was just trying to help out their economy as well! Not my fault they kept throwing corvettes at my AT600 Excaliburs!

I had the Yor hand over their last planet to me once when I first started playing (they were at beginner), but I thought it made sense. They had no chance of winning, and from their point of view it came down to giving me contol over them vs. having every last member of their race mercilessly slaughtered. It actually impressed me that they were realistic enough to choose the former option.

But surely you didn't expect some kind of climatic battle when they only had one planet and were throwing corvettes against your overlords ... did you? Even if they had retained all 4 of their planets, I would have placed money on the one producing overlords over the one who can only produce corvettes.

I think this was just another way of having a window pop up and saying "We know we can't beat you, so we surrender to you" (paraphrase).
