I finally finished a game, and I can't upload to metaverse

I finished my game, i'm connected to the internet, i get the video, the summary, then the upload screen, but it doesn't do anything, i select my name, (which is kind of greyed out, if that's significant) and email address and but it can't seem to upload, it just sits there until i give up (+2mins) and click no thanks, whereupon i (sometimes) get this message

send test status 1
error status 0

galciv usually crashes about now...

The send status is correct. It is indicating that the send result was ok.

Make sure you use "Lord Commenus" as the player name and "aidanwade@....." for your email adress on the send pop-up.

If you are doing that and it still wont work, then Email CariElf with details of your problem. She is the elf with the know how :) Her email is [email protected]. She may ask for your end of game save (automatic) as well. Sorry i cant be more help

I have the very same problem. I've tried various emails/names that I've registered and re-registered with. None produce anything but the above result. The one thing that might be a little odd with my setup is that the game isn't on drive 'C', but is on another drive. I've had this mess with other games before. Plays fine, uploads No.

my setup is that the game isn't on drive 'C'

This shouldn't matter. Mine is loaded on my D: drive and my C: is my main. Just try to make sure you type your name exactly right, and you hit the send button only once. Then, relax, go get a drink, just be patient. It takes a while sometimes.
Is it just me, or there a lot of people with this problem recently? Hacker damage?

thanks, i'll email the elf and see if i can get somewhere...

i upgraded to v1.19 and now it just jumps back to the main menu with no message at all, harumph. I'm really tired of this "Citizen" Lord Commenus business!

thanks

being helpful on the forum, answering questions and such is your best way to get promoted from citizen. The metaverse has no effect on it.

the only other thing that could be preventing my uploads is the Zone Alarm artifact. It's notorious for being near-impossible to un-install, and I've had some problems with it since. Perhaps it's time to get out my ghost image and reformat the C drive. Any other ideas? What's the protocol that the upload uses? I suppose I could monitor the ports...hmm..

Oddly enough, your name submitted under Enter A New Alias.  I fixed that in the database.  Please upgrade to 1.19 as that has debug messages that may help me figure out why people's scores sometimes submit incorrectly.

You have to submit with the name that you registered with.  That's the one that showed up in your profile: smacksim.

i also couldn't upload my games, am getting send=1 and error=0. Finally regestered, with this name Dirt Craver and no noticeable change. Upgraded to 1.19, also no change.

You have to submit with the name that you register on the metaverse registration page. I've edited your scores in the database, but I don't make a habit of doing it.  So from now on, submit under the name Dirt Craver.  If you change the name that you submit under, you can register the new alias, but then only those scores submitted under that name will show up.

Thanks CariElf,

I still can't upload and get a soft crash 'will now close galciv.exe' in the background. I'll get the latest update and give a report on how it goes, especially if it works!

After the latest patch, no more crash, or messages. Nothing happens on submit. I'm playing a new game now, post-patch. we shall see.

I'm having problems too; I click submit and nothing happens. I don't have 1.19 yet though, I'll download it and see if it helps.

Luminae: make sure that you register your player name here:

http://www.galciv.com/playerreg.asp

The name that you submit with has to be the name that you register at that link, and if you register a new name, you will lose all the scores that you submitted under the other name.

It seems a few games were uploading, but unknown to me! Is there supposed to be a reply, like 'Game uploaded to the metaverse'?

Secondly, games are not under the player name, but under the ______ name, the name that appears to have logged in to the website, ie, probably the name I registered with originally, Wickworks1. I'd been searching for the player name on the metaverse. The instructions seem to indicate that only that player's scores will be there. However, when I just tried changing the player name (re-registering the player), the scores were still there, under the new name. This is a bit confusing.

I don't want to be a complainer, but I've had lots of problems with this metaverse thing. I'd really like to submit the 5-10 games I have finished successfully, all between 16,000 and 60,000 points. Unfortunately they were played over 3 patches, which makes it unlikely that I'll reload them and re-submit them, even if I get it to work properly.

The metaverse is not the reason I play the game, but it's an inspiration to keep playing/buying the new expansion, etc.. I'd suggest a couple of things:

1. Make it very clear, on a very clear link, what each of a players/owners/website/Drengin/Stardock identities and aliases are for. Ideally, reduce this to one ID and several player names optionally underneath it. Email should have nothing to do with the player name, just the owner name.

2. Give the browser a cookie to look up their owner/player stats automatically on both the metaverse, and on a 'player home page'. Player page should contain their metaverse stats and links for help. Would make a nice optional home page, which is an attractor for some.

3. Pool the reported problems with the metaverse on a Help page, and post avenues for solutions. Perhaps a volunteer fan could help troubleshoot/upload save games manually?

Thanks, and I realize this could have been an email to you all, but sometimes it's nice for others to see similar problems and solutions in the forum.

I just finished the first game on my laptop where I downloaded the game using SD Central. Tried to upload my score four times. Goes IMMEDIATELY to main menu. No status message of any kind. Running 1.2.

Thoughts? Could it have anything to do with the no information on the conclusion page when you save a game and restart it later so that the previously extermined races show no data. I did finish the game while offline and was hoping to submit results now.

Yes. My alias Airwreck and my email address are correct.

Don't wanna sound like a broken record, but... I can't for the life of me understand why my end games won't upload. First, big pet peeve, no feedback on upload success or failure! Fix that folks, it's annoying as hell.

At the upload prompt screen, I enter my metaverse ID -- GalacticDespot (formerly mstelly, but thought I'd change it to see if that was the problem...it wasn't). The game immediately returns me to the Main Menu. That's it. No acknowledgement, nothing. Hmmm, so I select the Metaverse link and do a search on GalacticDespot. Nothing. All I see for my ID is the text, "There are no scores to show."

My game version is 1.22.101. Help please. This game has been released for quite some time. I assumed a core feature such as this would be fine-tuned by now. But, you know assuming makes an ass outta u and me.

If someone has an answer, please post. I'll be in my war room planning the Drengin's demise.

Ok, let's see the check list:
- the email adress must correspond to the one associated with the playe on this site
- the serial register with the player (http://www.galciv.com/playerreg.asp) must match the serial on your machine. This means that if you have AP, your regesiter metaverse player must be the one with AP, if you have TotalGaming Network, then it must be the serial Id associated with TGN.
- your firewall must allow galciv.exe to send data to the outside

Unfortunately, I didn't write the code that sends the data to the metaverse, and the person who did (a) did not put any kind of feedback in it and (b) no longer works here, so I can't give you any useful feedback.

If you e-mail me your player alias, your name here on the forums, the e-mail address you use when submitting, and your serial number, I can look you up in the database.

Ok, this is just plain tiring! This on-again, off-again metaverse upload process is a load of crap. It worked 2 days ago, now it doesn't again. Carie, I know you didn't write the code nor is the person who did still available for a long-overdue tongue-lashing, but someone needs to take responsibility for this garbage.

Frogboy, I know I'm just one person out of thousands who have purchased your software, but customer service is successful only if the expectations of each individual customer are met. Mine are not. I expect a key element of this software, one that I found quite appealing, to work -- EVERY SINGLE TIME THAT I NEED IT. The upload part has been nothing but a headache for me and does not entice me to pay any more money for a defective product. NOW FIX IT.

Until then, I'll forego the upload. It's too much of a hassle and I don't feel anyone at Stardock has enough incentive to fix it. Good luck on your future releases, I for one will not bother helping you share in your success.

At this point i have to say that i've never-ever encountered any problems with the metaverse.

Further i believe that support for GalCiv is much MUCH better than for a lot of other games/applications where the producers don't even answer to any kind of complaints or questions they get.

I've had some troubles with StarDock Central some time ago, another time with my serial, as well as some other minor troubles, and every time i got either a fast reply to my eMails or quick and efficient help through this forum.

Ok, i too like to upload my scores, and the Metaverse does add a lot to the fun of the game compared to playing it "alone", but (at least for me) it's not the reason why i bought the game or why i'm playing it.

Ok, perhaps it's unfair of me to talk lightly about the Metaverse, as i'm not affected by the problem.

But as i've said: In my opinion customer-service is a much better for GalCiv than it is for a lot of other softwares from other producers.

Hi mstelly,

CariElf offered you to help and when she looks into a problem she usually finds a good soltution. What else do you excpect but the personal offer of a developer to look into your problem? Where do you get better support? Why do you complain?

Because she was honest and told you that someone else did code the functionality who left the firm?

What she told us is a perfectly normal situation which is usually hidden by the firm. I personally like it very much that Stardock employees are allowed to communicate with us freely without a legal departmant in their neck.

For many of us Metaverse works very well. I would not be suprised when something on your computer is broken.

Stardock delivers great support. But you have to give them a chance to help. When they tell you that they can't help you or they try and they don't have any success then I could understand your comment.
