I really like it too, but why wasn't it there when I reloaded? And it doesn't always stay in your sensor memory, because a few turns after I reloaded I found the starbase again and attacked it, losing the ship, and it dissapeared from the minimap because I didn't have a ship in range anymore. A really nice feature, but it's buggy.

I have updated from 1.13 to 1.2 and I have made a lots of copy and paste inth the files in order to play a french version. And I have found some strange things:
- some files appear to have been generated in a strange way: the end of the file was repeated
- I have experience lots of CTD. When I look in the debug.err, I found that lots of files have parsing problems. The funny thing was that I fixed the first file, reload Galciv and no more CTD. Looks like when a file has parsing problems, the game can't parse correct files that are loaded next. I am also wondering if some people are experiencing lots of CTD due to this point and the above mentionned
- when copying and pasting, I found some inconsistencies with monster.ship. Maybe it is my configuration but the Impossible tech was 999 and in the monster.ship, the tech_requirement_id was 199. Perharps, it would be better if the tech_requirement keyword was used instead of the tech__requirement_id keyword.
- In some files, there is the tech_requirement_id keyword instead of the tech_requirement keyword. Too bad, I haven't noted the corresponding files :(

Are we supposed to be able to see alien starbases on the minimap when they're out of sensor range? Because I was able to see them until I had to reload a saved game, and then they dissapeared

Resource starbases are always visible on the mini-map. This is Working As Designed®. Other starbases remain visible if you've visually spotted them once. This, I think, is a bug, although it makes sense. Starbases have a tendancy not to move very much.

That was a temporary change to fix a bug introduced in 1.13.

What I have always found strange was to be able to know where un-mined ressources are once I have found them, but to have them dissapear in FOW when a starbase is created. On when the starbase is destroyed, the ressource come back and shine ine the FOW :)
I found it more consistent to always know where ressources are located when you have find them.

Understandable. But I find it strange that the version doesn't reset these kind of fix :) . It could have messed other things :)

I can confirm this

Thanks! I knew I wasn't crazy! (Well, not because of this, anyway) :D

No, it's not. When I reloaded the saved game they dissapeared from the minimap. But they're still on the tactical map, so I can find them again if I look.

Ok, sometimes I can see them and sometimes I can't. I think it has to do with whether they were built in this session or in a previous session.

Just got a CTD when redoing all my military projects the same month.

I got a CTD but unfortunately not sure what caused it...

I noticed that if you DON'T select auto-launch ships, but still set a waypoint, the ship will be auto-launched anyway. Of course, I'm not sure why you'd want to have a way-point without auto-launch. I think if you unselect auto-launch it should probably clear the waypoint.

There was some other problem I can't remember now, I'll try to write them down as I find them now. :-)

My games start out fine, but when I get so far it starts to crash to desktop repetedly.. In my games usually near the end when I am massacering with Terror Stars but soemtimes after lots of things.. but mostly after im into the game with lots of techs researched and stuff... in fact around dreadnaught time I believe is normall.

Mostly its just alot of crashing but I found something wierd this time..

I took over a Yor Planet, and it had a battle hammer qued up.. When it was created I went back to that planet and there was a Yor ship icon in 'orbit'. I looked at it again, removed it from orbit and it was a Yor ship that I controlled and can controll.. kinda wierd.

if these have been reported before please ignore:

1. summary screen - lots of zero's for other races, missing info and planet earths!
2. ctd - appear to be caused by ships blowing up - is there a new explosion?

4. Reload from save took FOREVER! Got stuck at 7% for at least a minute, then went to 100% in one second. Never seen that before, kinda wierd.
End of quote

The loading bar is actually only for when the screens are being created.  The first 8% or so is when the graphic files are being loaded in, and that's the longest part.  Have you added any mods?

I just upgraded to 1.2, and now I can't run the game past the opening dialogs. When starting a brand new game, I get past the opening dialogs to the point where the movie cutscene usually shows the robots working (?)... at this point the screen clears to black, I can see a big white cursor on the screen, but the entire computer is frozen. Not CTD, but locked up so tight a CTL-ALT-DEL won't even break out of it. Worked fine at 1.13 just yesterday. Ouch. Is there a way to restore back to 1.13? I know I can re-install the game from scratch, but how do I update JUST to v1.13???????????????
End of quote

Unless you archived 1.13, you can't restore it. Re-installing even 1.2 may help your problem, though.  First you could try re-installing your bink tools and checking to see that your sound drivers are up to date.

http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

Updated to 1.2 and now I can't get any music, sound effects ok. Guess I'll listen to Billy Joel in space.
End of quote

Did you check to make sure that your music is still turned on? If user defined playlist is turned ON but there's no playlist selected, that will also turn off music.

When I tried to reload my game from a file "New Save Game" I found it hadn't been saved and an old game loaded in instead. Similarly "Autosave" had not been updated with my latest games data either. I had to give the save game a unique name to get it to save and reload properly.
End of quote

Delete your old save game folders.  As long as the game detects them, it will think that they're old save games.

We were just talking about this bug in the chat channel: my capital world and the nearby system have autopilot destination markers on them one after another several turns ago. All my starbases were not autopiloting (one of the possible cause), while all my ships have been manually checked, then after disbanding the trade routes from those planets, the autopilot markers finally went away.

Are there any ways to fix this bug without killing the trade route?

End of quote

I've never seen this.  Can you send me your save game?

I also get the game locking up after a Vote of the Star LEague
End of quote

Do you mean the united planets? Does it seem to happen on any particular issue?  Is this a 1.19 or higher game?

I just upgraded to 1.2 and I'm getting a lot of CTDs. A couple of times it happened when I tried to colonize a specific planet. I finally did it without problems about the third time I tried, but that time it popped up with a special event as I did it, so I'm not sure if that interfered with its usual crash. The major problem, though, has been with research. About 1/3 of the time when the screen pops up informing me that I've researched a new tech, the game crashes to desktop. I've never had any of these problems with the earlier versions. I tried running SmartException and, while it helpfully informs me that GalCiv has crashed, it doesn't provided a log for me to send.
End of quote

Maybe you should try re-installing Gal Civ.  Something may have gotten messed up with your installation.

Darn.. the starbase on screen bug has nothing to do with the Startrek mod... it even happens with mod turned off..

Looks like i'll be out of the game till this problem gets fixed ... grrrrrr.....

also not sure if turning off the mods button is actually turning off the whole mod.. (I'm still seeing 7 of 9 etc... in transmitions) some of it looks like its turned off but not others.. ships, isocial production, starbase graphics is turned off..

End of quote

If any of the files are in your normal folders and not in the mods folder, those will still show up.  Also, if you turn off the mods and haven't restarted Gal Civ, that could also explain why not all the mods are being turned off.  And if it's the same game, you're going to have problems running without mods.   If you can reproduce it in a clean game with no mods, please tell me how, in detailed steps, to reproduce it.

End of quote

If they're on resources, yes.

They were supposed to fix that by including a verion of the movie with sound in the multimedia pack. (The reason there's no sound is because... there's no sound!)
End of quote

Ummm....I think that you have the version that has sound.  Check your movies directory.

The french data files were very buggy, and installing the update on top of it makes it worse because not all of the files get updated.  You should probably get the clean data files from here:

http://www.joeuser.com/sdfiles/data%201.2.zip

and then do your translations.

When I update from stardock central, are the old files replaced or did a merge occurs?

When trying to build a Terror Star with a negative treasury you get a message saying that the UP has limited starbases to zero modules. And it's possible to build a Terror Star with less than 5000 bc in the treasury as long as it isn't negative. (Which may or may not be unintended.)

That's probably from reloading the old save. I've noticed the same thing if I make changes to a mod (specifically adding more buildings), and then reload a game... I think it messes up the computer's list of what's available.

I have noticed another small bug with reloads though. In my last game (started in 1.20), I was at war with the Altarians for some time, yet whenever I reloaded during the war, the GNN robot told me that I was 'not at war with any major civilizations'. I imagine the Altarians were insulted. ;)

The same summary screen also keeps telling me that I'm falling behind in tech, even though I seem to be pretty far ahead, although that's harder to judge.

When an alien civilization has the alliance tech then it shows themselves allied with themselves in the diplomacy screen.
For example, Torian Federation allied with Torian Federation.

If I follow all my autopilot ships, then I don't experience the slowdowns I was complaining about. Maybe because the computer calculates them one after another. If I don't follow them, they move all at once.

The alignment of a race is still screwed up. With an alignment of 61, I'm considered Saintly instead of Good. Can I fix this somewhere myself?

I don't know if this is a change but is it normal I can't trade constructors. I haven't noticed this in earlier versions because I didn't need to trade this but in this game I lost a spacerace to a resource with the altarians. When I wanted to trade the winning constructor for some techs, I noticed I couldn't trade.

Alien resource starbases don't show up in the fog of war. And the AI always builds two starbases, one on the resource and one next to the resource starbase. This is kind of stupid AI behaviour and they upgrade the base next to the resource instead of the resource starbase. This makes it even more stupid. ;)

Is it normal I can't choose any race for a treaty of attack? For example I wanted to start a treaty of attack against the yor together with the altarians but I couldn't select the treaty of attack against the yor. My relation with the yor was "warm", maybe that has something to do with it. But I want to be able to start a treaty of attack with anyone, even if I have a "warm" relationship with that race.

as a habit i tend to use the usual sequence of save files to get through a game. however, realised that saving over a pre 1.19 file is not a good idea. recommend for 1.2 to create new files ie delete ALL old files....otherwise you get corrupt data.

Some bugs I've found...

Saving over old save games does not seem to work well.. at least not if it was a 1.13 game.

Alien Civs don't seem to be affected by logistics cost... they seem to plop down starbases like nobodies business, sometimes several bases on a single resource. If it wasn't for the ability to park my constructor on a resource I would have been screwed in the resource department.

On my latest game I get a CTD for no apparent reason after pressing the TURN button. Seems to happen every time now.

The game seems pretty much broken now... I don't want to start another game just to get a CTD half way through it.

Why is my score going DOWN? I noticed that in the Tiny category, my score went from 84123 to 84116 for a game that had a score of 3570! I checked my records and found that my overall score has been going down also! I "peaked" at 123427 and now (4 games later) I have 119996 points. Two of those games were under 1.19 and the last two under 1.20. Is this a glitch or is there some logical explanation, or am I just going nuts? lol

The scores of your last four games are about half as high as your other recent games. It's not surprising that they're dragging your score down. Try searching the forum for some threads that explain how metaverse scores are calculated. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=120131#120431 http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=80137 http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?id=79883&BID=GF&page=1#80259

Another goodie is when colonizing I found a yellow star with a 16 planet on. When I colonize the planet it changes to a 12 but the star stays yellow.

Never had any probs untill 1.2. :(

CTD, select The Terraformer after requisite technology researched = CTD. Save from turn before & smartexception submitted.

Anyone else seen this?
