how to make someone like you?

i am currently having a bad time with the Torians, we are both good ut they keep declaring war on me saying "we have to take you out, before you take us out" and i have to bribe them between 10000 and 15000 to set their minds straight, okay now i want to know how to get our relations up so they stop waring me, ive tried gifting 10000+ bc's and even giving some highlevel techs, but they stay at cool in our relation, ive tried starting up traderoutes to make them dependent of me, but before the routes can start making them depend on me, they declare war... what to do what to do? i cant have people warring on me if i am to have chance on my technological victory wich is still several years ahead... the other worse thing is that i cant conquer the torians either, because of two things.
1: if i do i would get too much influence and get cultural win...
2: they are practically the only race left, i still have the altarians and the other A race (cant remember the name) but they are extremely small and they are loosing planets each turn to the independent leauge and the torians (and some to me ofcourse) and i predict it will only be a year or two until they are both gone..

Once not at war, try something like 20BC for 100 turns - and repeat every three or four turns.

Do you have any warships near their borders? That might be what is setting them off.

"how to make someone like you?"

Do not ask you them to work over time on the weekend (:(

Really when I play I use Trade, keep as many trade routes as you can get.

Trade minors and majors for Technology.

When a major race is hostile with me I offer them a tribute of some technology.

the problem is that i cant keep trading with them since all routes with them are lost when (note i say when, not if) they declare war on me :(

Posion,

As Kemperor said it seems you have military ships within their cultural borders. Have you tried sending the Torians to war against the Altarians and Arceans ?

1) You can avoid the cultural victory by declaring war on one of the weaker majors

no more! no more will the Earth stand by while Torian scum plunder and ravage, NO MORE!!! today i issue a call! a call for justice! a call for the brave! We will move DIRECTLY for the Torian homeworld! WE WILL CRUSH THEM FOR PEACE!!! they will be begging for it, like we have been forced to do for so long, they will be begging for it!
The attack Commences soon! a fleet of our bravest flyers, our most honored fellow humans! a fleet of avatars and rangers, of overlords and dreadnoughts! NOTHING WILL STOP US!!! ironically enough, the Torians have been funding their own doom with the money they have trades with us! they have themselves paid for Spacestation 33! also known, as the Terror Star!

A call is made... the call of justice... the call of freedom... the call... the call for HUMANITY!!! LETS TAKE OUR RIGHTFUL PLACE AMONGST THE STARS!!!

i cant send them to war with the arcaeans or the altarians, the torians would crush them in a matter of months... but i have a plan, ill send them to war with EACH and EVERY race in the galaxy, and when they least expect it, ill move in a terrorstar and take out as many of their systems as i can, they will be begging ME for surrender

You maybe in a hopeless position in this game.

If you let them declare war on you and you are weaker than them you have a hard time convicing them to go for peace. The only way you can ask for peace is by winning the War.

Peacefull relations is something I watch through the game and work on early. If I meet a Major race and their Alignment is Nuetral I bribe them to make them my friends. I work twice as hard to keep the my friend when their fleet is larger than mine.

The point is that the AI isn't dumb. The Torians know that it's pretty much you and them in the running, and so have little to no desire to be your friend, because it's left to you two. In other words, no amount of bribery is going to cut it.

The time I was in a similar situation (with the Dregin, who had me well cornered, so I played the "nice Dregin, here's a tech, go kill for me," which went great until they did kill off all the other majors). I went porous, dumping everything into tech and not putting up a fight. It just barely worked.

i just made it, with my terrorstar i was able to take out almost all of their solar systems, in the end they only had their main system left, which i left and even gave them a few of the conquered planets so they wouldnt surrender... a few months after they signed a most embarrasing peace treaty, the final frontier was reached, we are now one with the universe! wohoo! :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT: :CONGRAT:

I had a time when the altarians were the only major race in the galaxy and went evil.
