For the last 2 weeks I and 15 fellow students have been stressed about our final projects at school. We've been 4 years on our way and can now call us Graphic Designers. The projects consists of 4 jobs, The first 2 are obligatory - 1 website and 1 for print (3 spreads) that has to match 100% on a print we got delivered, 2 pictures had to be scanned and color corrected, text had to be set up correctly after standards etc. Then there were the free jobs, also 1 website and 1 for print, minimum 6 spreads. It had to go together in concept, design and the technical parts also had to be correct. Subject: Lifestyle, Format: Magazine. So I chose digital communication as a sub-subject, looked at the joys and dangers of using chat, cell phones etc. Originally I was hoping we weren't gonna make a magazine but rather a brochure or folder, because I could use my material to produce a brochure for educational purposes. But the format borked that idea, and instead I created a concept for a magazine which would go more into detail in the articles, rather than describing/recommending a new product etc. And it went well, and I'm a happy man.
Here in Denmark, we have a different grade system. If you get 03 or 5, you haven't passed your exam. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13 you passed. 8 is given for average performance. That's how it works for standard schools and universities. But not the Technical School I attended, here the highest grade you can get is 11, and that grade results in a bronze medal and a hand shake with our queen at the Copenhagen City Hall. 2 of my class mates got 11, myself and another got 10, the rest got 9, 8 and one got a 7. So I can proudly say I passed with grace, and now all I have to worry about is getting back to work on monday. School's over.
