Fleet Question

Have the way fleets work changed? I was the lucky recipient of 54 corvettes :HOT: that I put into a fleet and attacked a death knight with. One dose of combat and around 40 of my corvettes were destroyed along with the alien death knight.

Or has it always worked like this?

According to the Galactic Battle Simulator http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/simulator.asp it should take 30 corvettes to beat a death night. 40 seems reasonable, since it doesn't account for racial bonuses. Doesn't look like the corvetts got anything special for being in a fleet, so nothing's changed.

yeah, you have no benefit from fleets other than less micro management currently. This means that your corvettes are attacking the death knight 1 at a time, and gradually lowering its hit points. Maybe in the future we will actually see fleet/tactical combat.

I dont do combat a lot: I just wasnt sure if I should have seen each corvette attack separately or not. As it was so many souls died in one attack phase (:( but I'm reassured that it is working correctly.

yeah, its working right. The best thing to do with those corvettes is to park them in your systems to boost up your military rating (but make sure you have at least 2 spots open so you can continue building ships). I had one event where i got 100 corvettes, maybe even more than that, and it significantly raised my military rating after i parked them on some planets.

It will boost your military rating (if you need it) but the military maintenance cost can be a lot if you have so many ships. It's your call.

You can also gift them to the AI's for a small diplomatic boost.

Yes, but he the death knight only attacks once ie shooting at one corvette before being attacked again by a stack.

Fleets can work to your advantage if your mix classes, a lot of worthless ships like corvetes can add to an attack significantly if paired with one up to date capitol ship. the reason is the defending ship(s) wiill only attack the ship with the highest defensive rating first--that being your capitoal ship. the attack rating of the corvettes are then just a bonus and won't die unless you also loose your capital ship. Also, i have used the pheonix (i think--the ship with a large attack and no defense) paired with a ship with good defenses this way as a cheap way to upgrade the attck of a fleet.
I nearly always use fleets and don't lose hardly any ships at all.

Never mind... I read a post that just confirmed what I wrote here originally, so ignore this post. :)
