.wba will not open after installing SP2

After installing SP2 for XP .wba files will not open directly from IE. I am now required to save them to disk first then double click them.
I'm hoping someone else has had this problem as it is increadibly annoying.

I took the big leap a week ago and installed SP2 on both my computer and my husbands computer and crossed my fingers that everything would work right.Aside from a print sharing 0ver a network problem (which I was finally was able to resolve), everything appears to be working just fine including opening wba files. crissy14 jumps for joy!!! Are you getting any error messages? Or is that the file simply wont open? Did you try disabeling the new pop-up blocker? I found it to be quite annoying, besides, I use my own pop-up blocker.

SP2 is causing many download problems, .wba will not install on download for me using IE but it will with FireFox.
For some people .wba is being changed to .zip when download with IE (.wba is just .zip renamed), which means saving
to disc then rename .zip to .wba then double click to install.
You are not alone, many others are having these problems.

Crissy14,
No error message exactly, the first box is normal... "do you want to open or save this file?"
I choose open, and all seems well, then XP tells me... ""The file you are downloading cannot be opened. It is either corrept or has an incorrect extension." (or something like that)
I don't use the popup blocker, and have disabled my usual for Wincustomize.

Cavan1,
Yeah, I've heard about the .wba-->.zip problem, and I would not be surprised to learn this is a related problem, but when I save them they are always correctly saved as .wba. All I have to do then is doubleclick it and it works fine.

Thank you both for your replies. I'm considering calling MS's SP2 support line.

I've said this a hundred times in different threads on different sites.
Save the file as a .wba and change the type to all types. After it is downloaded just double click on it.
After a few hours (maybe a day or two) it will suddenly start working like it should.
Don't ask me how, why, or when exactly as I have never been able to pinpoint this, but the problem will correct itself...by itself.

Phoon, I use FF but if I want to get IE working would I have to use your method for everything, bootskin, logons, cursors, IP and
WB all download as proper file but will not self install. The other thing I find strange about this is that IE is my default browser, hide exts. for known files uncheck. If IE which is part of OS can't open when ext. is proper how can FireFox?
When first noticed this problem I reinstalled all programs so the dir. paths have been created after SP2, but IE still could not
find, FF which again is not part of OS knows how to open. Again is not a real problem for me, just tring to figure out what is
causing this issue.

Cavan.. wait a day or two and see if it fixes itself. Lemme know. I don't think it has anything to do with FF or IE. Try rebooting a few times too. I wish I knew why it just magicaly resolves itself.. but it does.

As crazy as it sounds, Phoon is right. It just fixes itself at some point.

Phoon, IE has not self corrected yet, since I use FF 95% of the time I will play with IE now and then. It would be nice to have it work properly just in case I ever need it.
Thanks for the tip/info, maybe one of these days when we cross paths I will be able to report problem fixed.

I think the reason it "works itself out" is because SP2 is such a big, detailed change to the system it kinda needs a few reboots to get it together. Like, updating the registry, kinks in the files, whatever...

Sorry for such a long response time.
I appreciate the suggestion, but my problem appears to be slightly different.
I'll probibly en up re-imaging my machine, just because I haven't for so long but...

My files already save a .wba. There is nothing for me to change.
I have saved, and opened them by hand for months, and hundreds of times. It hasn't changed anything.

Thanks for trying though.
