TGA files just not doing it, nor import to tga from png.

help please

I have been troubleshooting this for hours.
I use jasc PSP or corel painter and tga files aren't saved in 32bit format required for SS.

I have tried importing png files they want to import to a BMP, not to tga. in Skin studio.
I am downloading photoshop to see if I can get a file to export tga that ss will use. That seems to be where people are having the best luck.
I have read the forums concerning TGA (search) and notices some had the same problems. There solution is to use png import, which I am unable to create a tga from this import.

Thanks in advance for any help,

The problem people are experiencing with TGA's came along with Photoshop CS (8). In PS7 TGA's and PNG's would behave the same way in PS, meaning they'd both have transparent backgrounds and the transparent and semitransparent pixels would show up in SkS as that. But Adobe wanted that to change of some reason and the way you work with TGA's in CS is a little different now. TGA's in PS CS don't behave like PNG's, they can't have transparent backgrounds like PNG's. Instead you got to define the transparent parts of the image in an alpha channel. The way you do that is make a selection of what needs to be visible, then click on the channels tab (usually lower right pallet), make a new channel and fill the selection with white. The white areas define the visible parts and the black areas define the invisible parts.

That's for PS, can't help with the other proggies

Only of any help if you can get the version 7 plugin.

What version of PSP? I use 8.10. First off check your file settings for PNG under file format preferences. The box needs to be Unchecked.
In order for a PNG to convert to tga in SS you MUST have at least 1 transparent pixel. Also, in SS make sure that transparent and translucent are both checked for the part you are doing.

Ok, the only way I have made this work is using photoshop loading it from a png file (having ss convert it first to png).

I personally love Corel Painter, however it doesn't support tng files
I don't think I want to buy Photoshop elements, because doing text with Photoshop is not really friendly, a lot of the other stuff is, and Realdraw has more effects than photoshop.

Maybe corel draw has what I need. Or psp...
