Running GalCiv 1.2 under Win XP SP2 beta 2

Just thought to let the developers know that there do not seem to be any conflicts between Win XP SP2 and GalCiv. And thanks for fixing the UP tech trade bug!

How good? Very great potential, but still in beta. Major effort is being put into security. There is a new Security Center in the Control Panel and on startup; it detects your firewall, AV, and update status allowing you to change or remedy first. The new firewall locks the computer down on startup; it's good, but I still use a third party firewall which the Windows firewall is built to support running two firewalls without conflicts. IE has improved security against certain viral-like activities and will not even load unsigned and uncertified scripts. Outlook Express still sucks, but what's news about that? Improved pop-up blocking in IE and the alert box for installing has three, or more, choices: yes, no, never, and, sometimes, just this once. All kinds of unseen changes in the registry to close security loopholes like the DCOM problem, etc. My guess is that non-tech users are going to be a bit befuddled why certain things don't work like they used to, and will either live with it or hire a tech support guy, like me, to fix the "appliance." You might want to see Thurrot's review at http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/windowsxp_sp2_preview2.asp which is fairly accurate.

Hey, J.T. Qwerk,

I have a question for you: how do you win by military conquest at Masochistic level? I have winning by research or alliance in a medium environment, but huge takes forever, and it seems that expansion, research, and military production doesn't add up. Got any suggestions on how to approach the learning curve on this one? Thanks!

there are and have been many thoughts on how to do it...
most of which have been delved into in the stratagies forum..

My method is far from the quickest.. it takes me on average 3 days to play it out..

I'll be posting my method on the "Star Fleet" web site http://starfleet.galciv.org/ someday soon (hopefully)

its not a way to crank out games.. but it does achieve the highest scores possible on gigantic masso tight rare.
most games finish approx year 2240.. and I never build anyships except for colony, freighter, constructor ... most planets end up being fully developed.. all research done or traded for.... and i usually end up being at least friends with Computer empires prior to knocking them out via culture bombing.. It takes longer in V1.2 but my stratagy still works just as effectivly..

Forever is a long time... LOL I'm happy with 3 days as it limits the number of games I post to the metaverse to about a max of 8 / month.. I generally only play about 4 / month otherwise my scores get sevearly degridated the more games I play in any 30 day period..so I limit them.. I could play more but after 4 games I generaly end up loosing about 1/2 the score which is still good.. also the degridation over the months hits hard the more you've scored.. so that you have to score more and more each 30 day period..

these and other topics hints/tips will also end up being posted on our web site..

to get personalized help you may want to consider joining an empire as ppl are more likely to help you if it also helps them.. the link to StarFleet is http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=707

Hope this helps you out..

I think that this msg is getting way.. way off topic... psp pro 7 is a jasc product.. I suggest you go to their support forum.. which they probably have a link to from their home site.. http://www.jasc.com
