Is there a fast way to destroy my own ships

Due to extreme maintenance costs of my fleet a sudden decline in income I wanted to destroy large number of my older class ships. Is there a quicker way of doing this other then 1 ship at time and having to confirm each destruction?

You can trade/gift them for a little bit of cash. If you don't rename your ships, they wind up sorted on the trade screen by class.

I prefer to rename my ships for gifting or sale, so that they are always on top of the ship list... and no mistakenly selling/gifting the wrong one.

Absolutely the best way to make sure you're sending the right ship! :D

If you've got obsolete ships, give them to your opponent for whatever you can get. If they're useless to you they would also be useless to him--but the AI doesn't understand that. My most recent game--I was building Excaliburs, my one remaining opponent still had some BattleAxe's laying around.

How do you scrap ships. I was in a situation last night where I had a good number of dreadnaughts running around. There were rangers and avengers being built, but I had enough dreadnaughts to make a difference. Everyone was just about even militarily, but like Druid, needed to scrap my ships. How do you do it?

In the little ship information display, you can just click the red X button, or you can open up their information screen and click the appropriate button.

In this screenshot, it's the little red X button just to the right of the Moves 4/4 display.

'd' for "decomission." But, like this thread says, if you want to scrap a lot of them it's easier to just give them to someone who won't use them against you.

Assuming they're lower class than your ships, give them to someone who will use them against you. Free experience for your fleet, if you excercise a bit of caution; delay the eventual war a little bit longer via diplomacy, and recieve some cash or other benefit from it; and load your enemy down with more expenses in the mean time.

Silly me. I was thinking about 'd' for destruction, or 'destroy' ;)

I was actually thinking "disband," because that's what Civ calls it, but the game asks me if I'm sure I want to "decomission" the ship, so I go with that. ;)~SDC~

I think that the AI should decomision ships too. It would stop the "poison gift" scenario of giving enemies free ships and would stop AI players expecially minors from clogging up systems with useless ships. They're also needs to be some kind of relitivly cheap defense satalites that have no mobility but a powerful defense, a sort of improved late game battleaxe to offset the power of stuff like overlords.

I figured the intention was for you to offset the power of their Overlords by building more Overlords then them. :D

The Proton Mines in one of the mods might be of service. The Mk III mines have a base DEF of something around 64, but 0 ATT and 0 Speed.

But when you get bonus speed, then the Mines would be able to move, won't they?

They don't seem to be able to in any of the games I've played. They can launch, but don't move at all from there. Probably all 0 Speed ships are caught by the Starbase immobility code, or something of the like.

Speed boni are kinda quirky anyway (+x% speed is exactly what it states, +x%, if chosen as a racial pick; +x% speed is +x/10 moves when recieved from an achievment or wonder).
