looking to pull info from another website...

to login and notify private messages, etc

ok, what im trying to do, is allow the user to log in and have something like the mailbox, but with instant messages instead of mail, and also, to pull headlines from the news of the same site??
is this possible? am i overlooking the process or program that id need to work with od?

Im not sure but I thought I saw scripts for that exact thing at bravenet.com..you may look there, they have a library of usefull web tricks..
Other than that I have no clue..
