What does everyone think about AP so far?

So, does it add quite a bit to the original game? Are the new civilizations fun? How are the new campaigns? Any other little exciting additions worth mentioning?

One other question, the main thing that initally attracted me to GalCiv was it's fascinating storyline. How does AP expand on it's "precursor"?

Two new civs: 10/10
-adds to complexity of individual games
New ships: 5/10
-I never seem to need to build these new type of ships
Campaign: 7/10
-seems to be most beta aspect of game
-cause CTDs that main game doesn't have
-interface needs polishing
-campaign was fun and challeging when not crashing
-great potential for fan generated campaigns
Editors: no grade
-have not really tried them

i have started the campaign and played a couple of scenarios as well as two normal games.

the scenarios make for some interesting game play.

i have had one CTD from 6 games so far so i cant complain about them.

My expereince with AP so far is that I have to learn to play differently than before. I was playing at the small to medium masso level, but I have had to drop back to crippling or lower to still win. The diplomacy and influence doesn't stop the AI from wanting you planets as soon as they get death gliders, so I have to build up the military almost faster than researching the basic stuff. The games seem harder in that respect.

What's a ctd? Also I bet things are more hectic now that there are 2 more civs. Are there any new researches?

I didn't like the campaign. First scenario: Ooops, I made a mistake, I picked diplomacy picks and they are as good as useless here. Playing maso I can win but it will take long because I can't rush, playing lower difficulty I'll find it a breeze. So I have to choose between unentertaining because too easy and unentertaining because too long (yes even on a small map I manage to find it too long to invade 3 planets - take lots of turns to build up a fleet to be able to invade them while doing nothing interesting since you can't do any diplomacy in this scenario).

Everything so far is good, except the campaigns are too tough. The charge for every single module build in a starbase is a little bit too much in my opinion. ;)

Only a few starbase modules cost money.

the campaign (for the most part) is very good. The only missions that need a rework are 5 and 9, because your starting ships are so powerful the AI immediatly surrenders. In fact, in mission 9, if you dont get the AI to surrender in about 10 turns your bankrupt and can no longer build anything anyways. Not really a mission... just rush for universal translators (all you have time to research since you start on a PQ 6) and then peace treaty for all there planets. All the other missions are fine, and i enjoyed playing them.
