Demo and Logistics Questions...

I am currently playing the demo of GalCiv (and loving it!), and I have a few questions.

First, I won the game (once) and was "kicked out" to the summaries. In the full-blown game is it possible to continue playing after you have achieved a victory?

Second, I noted (from information at JavaScout's Database site--thank you, JavaScout!) that there are a number of technologies relating to "logistics"--and yet the very first one (Basic Logistics, requiring Industrial Theory) is not in the demo. Is that a difference in the demo, or has the game abandoned that concept? And if it has NOT abandoned that concept, can someone explain to me the effect that various items have when they reduce logistics costs?

I look forward to becoming part of this community!

1-You start a new game, then another, then another, then another--but first, buy the game!!! You'll love it, guaranteed.

2-Logistics is a fairly new addition to the game. It means that you are required to pay for some projects, like starbases, up front. It makes starbases more valuable to the player than they have been in the past (some people built >100 in a single game!!)

You are definitely welcome to this community! Make sure to check out the empires forum. That is a whole dimension to the game in itself!

For information: the demo is GalCiv v1.03. The current version is 1.20. Lots of thing have changed between theses 2 versions. And I don't speak about features that ared disabled in the demo version: larger galaxies, ability to choose a party and somes picks, some ships techs that seem to do nothing in the demo (since the corresponding ship isn't in the demo).

Quick follow-up question. Part way through the demo several of the items in my build lists start appearing with a parenthesized number following them. For example, "Banking Center (5)" or "Entertainment Network (3)". What does this mean? (I'm partly asking because I could have sworn that I had already build those particular improvements on some of these planets, and it feels like I'm 'looping'.)

It means that these improvements are on a governor list for automatic building. By default, all planets are using Governor Ford's building queue

It is the order in which those items will be build. But you can alter that by changing the order in the Governor screen, but you have to buy the game for that. My advise buy Drengin.net and you get the game and the expansion and another cool games. ;)

Thanks for the answers, help, and advice, all. I expect to have the game by the second week of April--and look forward to posting further questions then. Until then, however, I'll have to make do with the demo and continue to refine my fledgling 'strategies'!

Just thought of another quick question: Can someone explain to me the symbols that appear at the end of your posts? Not detailing each and every one, just how you got them. I'm presuming that it has something to do with participation in the MetaVerse, perhaps.

Those are medals based on the games you have submitted to the metaverse. Things like the empire you belong to, games played, difficulty, score, etc. For a full listing, go to the metaverse and click on the Legend tab. You can also roll your mouse over the icons for a description.

If the player is a memeber of an Empire, then the first one is the empire logo. Basicly in an empire you just add up everybody's score and see who can get the highest total. A list of the top empires can be found here -> http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp . The other symbols are explained here -> http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/legend.asp .

KEmperor beat me to it. Yeah, you could just hold your mouse over most of the medals. But oddly enough, there's no ALT text to describe the # of games submitted symbol. ~SDC~

I have played the demo a lot before having Galciv (waiting for a french version). You can learn a lot about galciv with the demo.
If you post questions here, don't forget to precise that you are playing the demo.

An advice that will really help you in the demo: sell tech to the AI for BC over lots of months (just try to maximise the total BC that the AI will give you).
