Yikes - something has happened to my bootskins

Something is really messed up with my bootskin program --I know it worked before, but here's the prob: I made four new bootskins using the same formula set out in the tutorial and even double chedked with some others I made - the preview looks great. But when I log off, and re-boot, the skin is blacked out! I can see the outlines, but it seems to have a mask or whathave you overit! I did have a major system problem earlier this week and had to reinstall everything (thank god for backups!!) but it still isn't working - and only for the newest ones I made! I rechecked the color depth (all 4 bit, 16 colors) and the image type is bmp. but still get this blacked out image. Any ideas as to what to try next???? Thanks for the help. B

Check that both the background and the progress image have the SAME palette.

They can be ANY 16 colours..... but must only be the SAME colours.

Both not only need to be 4 bit....they need to be the SAME 4 bit...

For bootskins I have made for myself, after create 4 bit background image open it in msPaint rect. select 22 x 9
that will look good as progress bar, edit, copy to, bootskin folder as prog.bmp. This way never have to worry about
colors.

Thanks - it worked!!! Have no idea why, but thought I could use the same progress bar for everything! Now that I have that little thing worked out, they are fine! Again, thanks for all the help! PS how does one go about correcting spelling mistakes on screenshots once they are submitted?

Again I need to stress...if the main image has 16 specific colours only those exact same 16 specific colours can be used for the progress....you might not need all 16 but you must only choose from those 16.

When you do a new boot.....and it's a new 16 colours...you MUST use THOSE 16 for the progress, not some other 16 from a previous project.

I can't spell it out any more simply than that....

thats why you should make the progress bar IN the background, reduce the colours, then cut the progress bar out (think one of the bootskin tutorials even says that)

You also need to make sure the progress doesnt have a HUGE area.. It made my skins crash my cpu... BSD!!!
