The is talk about a 1.21 vers, but my guess is it will be released with the retail AP.

There will be another update to 1.2, but I don't have a date yet.

Thanks Cari!

I only ask because it was an item on the main page a few weeks ago (www.galciv.com) re: 1.21 and the minor aliens not being able to be the first to produce trade goods and such. The changes for 1.21 seem so good to me that I've held off playing to wait for it! hehe

We're testing those changes in the Altarian Prophecy beta. So far so good.

What about a date for fixing the "no metaverse submission" bug in 1.49K? The workaround suggested by CariElf (edit your preferences file) doesn't work.

Really, there should be an option to rollback to an older version.

There's an option under tools in SDC to auto-archive every time you update.

But auto-archive is extremely inefficient. It redownloads every single file, even if the file is in a prior archive.

Hummm... Depends on what you are about. You can set the autoarchive to take the currently installed version and create a zip file before the download starts. The zip file ends up in the SDC backup directory. Then SDC starts the download and install for the new version. You can also right click on the new version and have it download and archive. I have never used this option.

The updates can be quite large, but not all of them are, they can be quite small, 1-3 megs for example. Just depends on what, the devs decide need to be changed I think.

Of course if are using dialup it's a pain not matter how you cut it. ;)

Right, the option I was referring to automatically archives the current version before downloading and installing the new one.

I am sticking with J, it works fine for me, no bugs on it. ;)

so 1.21 will arrive around the time of AP first official release, yes?
Probably, but I don't have word on it myself yet.

Thanks Cari..It's just that it was a big news item months ago on the front page here, by Frogboy, re: 1.21.

I guess he decided to push it back to coincide with the Altarian Prophecy!

Right now everyone's getting The Political Machine finished off and doing final testing on Altaran Prophecy. Ones those are out of the way we can look at finalizing 1.21.

Status update: 1.21 is waiting on the Political Machine, right?

:)

be well all!

-Douglas' montly followup ;p

Hey, is there any way you guys could cancel autopilot or guard on a ship when an enemy ship comes within its detection range?

The only alternative to setting little "search patterns" using autopilot is to manually move every picket one square at a time.

Also, sometimes when you try to double-click on an enemy ship to see what it is the first click generates an "error beep" and changes the focus to some ship halfway across the map.

A SINGLE left-click on an enemy ship should make it the focus: if I click an enemy ship it's reasonable to assume I want information about it.

Lastly, there's no easy way for newbies like me to tell the nationality of a freighter. Double-clicking an enemy fighter pulls up its nationality and stats, but double-clicking a freighter shows a picture of my Vice President where the nation flag should be. He tells me the nationality of the destination, but only the planet of its origin, not its nationality.

To tell who owns the freighter you either have to find the planet of origin of the freighter or memorize the freighter icons of the various nations. The lizard guys' green, scaly ships stand out well, but the others are sometimes hard to guess.

Oh, yeah, one other thing: the "SitRep" you receive when you load a saved game always seems to say "We have fallen behind technologically" even when the "technology graph" shows the player in the lead.

They both can't be right. I suspect the "Load Game SitRep" is incorrect.

Err, this is an edit because I don't want to spam.

It seems possible to "miss the news" if you save your game at just the right (wrong?) spot. I saved my game early this morning when need for sleep overwhelmed, and when I loaded it back up a bunch of things seemed to have happened while I was asleep: I had received a free 'vette from the Altairans and I completed research on Battleships.

Now maybe I was so sleepy I didn't notice the Altairan ambassador giving me ships, but I know for a fact that one cannot help but be roused to wakefulness upon receiving the news that Battleships are ready to be built!

And did you spell Altairan "Altaran" on purpose? I always assumed the root word "Altar" was a misspelled "Altair" because "Altair" is a star while an "Altar" is a religious edifice. "Altaran" doesn't really make much sense, unless there's some kind of intentional play on words there -- "Altaran Prophecy" does make me suspicious ...

Hello, post #22 by Capon is right on the money. I hate it when my ships are on auto-pilot and they fly past an enemy and I can't stop them. I also like the Auto-survey option, but it would be nice if the survey ship changed course to a new anomoly when it finds a new one while moving. My survey ships have also passed right by known anomolies to get to some other ones.
The freighters remark and clicking on enemy ships are right on the money also.
One thing that would be really nice is if you could right click on something on screen and get an explanation of what it is or does. When you are setting up the queue for the governors, you have to remember what each imp. does or keep looking it up to get it right. I updated to ver 1.20 and got no readme file for all the new fixes/ changes. Under the game menu, I don't know what all the options mean and the game won't tell me.
Is there somewhere I can get this file? I also just downloaded The Altarian Prop., and got no readme file for that. Other than the editors, and the campaigns, I have no idea what I got for my money. I don't mean to sound bitchy, I just don't know what I got. There's no explanation for anything. It took me quite awhile just to figure out how to use one of the scenarios.
Anyways, thanks for listening to me whine. To leave on a positive note, I love GalCiv. Cheered me up alot after the MOO III fiasco.

Err, I misspelled "Altarian" as "Altaran". Also, I didn't "miss the news" that the Altarians had given me a ship. They kept the ship. (oops)

However, I still think saving and restoring at just the right (wrong?) time it does seem possible to miss the news of a tech discovery.

Another bug: if you orbit a colony ship in a colonized system and hit "Next Turn" a clock appears and the game seems to lock up. However, you still have control of the UI, and if you move the ship back into space you may proceed to the next turn. I don't know if this bug manifests itself if you leave a colony ship in an empty system.

How can I tell how many trade routes I have available? That info doesn't appear under the "Trade" tab.

Is it advantageous to micro the research allocation every turn a discovery will take place? What happens to excess research points? Are they carried forward to the next discovery, returned to the treasury, or wasted? If the answer is "wasted" you should reconsider, as all this does is create pointless micromanagement.

I have a few newbie questions, if anyone would like to answer 'em:

What, if any, is the sector cap for starbase trade enhancements? Can I pile on as many trade modules as I like?

Does a duplicate trade route earn the same as a new one?

What exactly happens to trade routes when the "civilian freighters" are shot down? Can a trade route be completely destroyed this way?
