Drengin.net - just to clarify

Wanna make sure I have the following correct:

1)I currently have Galciv by itself.
2)I want to upgrade to drengin.
3)After 1.5 years later, drengin subscription expires
4)The current games (Galciv, Corporate Machine, Stellar Frontier, etc.) have been removed from my computer (including installation files). And I did not create CD backups (or they are lost/damaged)

Given the above, which of the following is true?

A)I will still be able to download all of the above games, at their latest versions, including any patches that may have come out after the 1.5 years
B)I will only be able to download Galciv (since I had it standalone), including any patches that may have come out after the 1.5 years
C)I will not be able to download anything, period, and must reactivate my subscription to get even my GalCiv back.

Thank you. :)

Basically, if the answer is A, I'll be getting a drengin.net subscription. Otherwise, I'll be getting the Altarian Prophecy expansion by itself.

I'm not certain but I think its B. To be honest though in 1.5 years there won't be any new patches. They are almost done with the game now. One more major patch for the regular game, then perhaps a few patches for Altarian Phophecy and they will be done with GalCiv.

If the answer is B, that means that I won't be able to get Altarian Prophecy if I lose the installation files then. I would be only be able to download basic Galciv, since AP would've been considered to be just a part of my Drengin.net subscription, just like Corporate Machine, Stellar Frontier, etc.

Hmm, would be nice to get an official answer from one of them Stardock people, like CariElf or Frogboy. The sooner I know whether or not my investments will be protected if I get a Drengin.net subscription, the sooner you get my money. ;)

I would guess B - if you got option A, what would be the point in renewing your Drengin Sub?

However, you can set SDC to autoarchive your downloads, and provided you burn them off onto a CD, you should be able to reinstall. Note that you are just as likely to lose or damage an original CD as one you've created!

Methinks you want to have your cake and to eat it....

Having and eating the cake is not a unreal expectation considering it is a purchased product/service. If it were free then that would be different.

This is a good questions, I am sure a Stardock rep will be along shortly.

Thanks

Well, the reason you would continue to get Drengin.net with option A is that you won't get the new games that come out after 1.5 years. In other words, with Option A getting Drengin.net = buying all the games currently out in Drengin.net at once, as well as the games that come out within 1.5 years, but not the games that come out after 1.5 years.

The problem with option B is that, if I forget, or lose my Altarian Prophecy, I won't be able to get it again in the future without renewing my subscription, since it'll be considered part of the Drengin package. So you can think of Option B as renting the games for 1.5 years, instead of actually purchasing the games. On the other hand, if I bought Altarian Prophecy by itself, no matter how many years in the future, I can always redownload the files, thus my investment is protected.

I doubt Stardock representatives read every thread in the forum. You'd probably have better luck emailing someone. [email protected] , perhaps?

Just got a reply back

Hello,

Once your subscription has expired, should you need to download, we will be able to provide you with backups of those games you had access to at the time of the expiration. You will get whatever version was
current when your subscription expired. You will likely have acess to any patches, but updates/expansions released since the subscription expiration you will not.
Your first solution below is correct.

Thank you,
Kim
