Does the GIA come into play at all? I have never seen the option to use it.

my suggestion is why not make it possible to ask aliens in the foreign policy screen to enact trade embargoes on other races that you are opposed to. bring them down economically...in reverse

Sounds good, as well as to add the possibility to demand the AI to give you SB in your sectors as they do, not tradewise

Also another good sugestion would be to ask the AI to remove their ships from your space after you have conquered another planet.

You can already do that. Remember the alien Starbase name... contact aliens, and select that starbase from their ship list. If you don't offer anything in trade, you are demanding the starbase.

Ooh... that's a useful tip, and it will come in quite handy... I often trade for the starbases mining influence and morale resources.
