Current "cyber poll" leaves "negative pregnants". I can not answer it.

The current "cyber poll": "do strategy games benefit from 3D engines?" has answers
that are confusing and seem to cause assumed preconditions that make the answers
convaluted.

1). While I feel that use of 3D graphics can enhance the enjoyment of a good
strategy game, I don't think a good strategy game MUST use them.

2). I have yet to see a good strategy game that suffered negative affects that could
be blamed directly on the 3D graphics engine.

Cheers,
Jack

I dont agree with any of those two options that are up now. For turnbased strategy games I'd say No. But for realtime I dont see why 3D would be so bad. Not that it's neccesary tho.

i would say 3D engines are not required but I wouldn't say they cause a negative impact on strategy games.

I suppose it depends on how long the 3D engine takes to implement and whether this uses resources which would otherwise be spent improving the game. I would automatically assume that it can't have a negative effect, but I assume the extra cost could reduce the time spent on other aspects.
