GalCiv German/English version

Some comments andquestions about the german version of GalCiv:

I bought the german CD-version of GalCiv, and was first very, very disappointed. Although the game looked quite cool, the german version is a bag of bugs including random crashes, invisible ships (can click'em but can't see'em), complete system crashes and so on.

Later i updated the game via the download on the homepage to the expanded universe version, but then it was completely unplayable since it crashed everytime roughly after some minutes of play. Even if i reloaded the game would invariably crash the next turn.

Muuuch laaater i deceided to give it a chance again since the game per se is 100% what i was looking for a long time. So i registered on StarDock, got the updates and -sucess at last- got it running. Heureka - no crashes anymore, better graphics, addictive, very addictive, AND a editor for modmaking available-
LOL LOL LOL

I like the game very much but now i've got some nagging questions concerning further versions:

My version of GalCiv contains a mix of german and english files. I've also noticed that there are a lot of gfx in the gfx-folder that to this day i've never never seen in the game (and i play it quite a lot).

- Could this be caused by the initial german origins of my GalCiv?
- Could there be some errors in AP due to this if i choose to obtain it?
- Where can i get the complete english files (never mind the german ones...)?
- Where can i get the complete updates that i've got via Stardock as single files to store on CD for reinstall if my GalCiv shouldn't be running properly anymore after a newer update?

(Pardon my english, if anything sounds too straightforward or demanding - i got accused of this some time ago- this is due to my lack of practice)

This http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?id=114712&BID=GF looks like a good place to me

Remember that you could always uninstall galciv and download it completly with Stardock Central. And you could use Stardock Central to make an archive and burn a CD. If you worry about udpate messing the game, you should activate the "archive before update" option from Stardock Central that backups the files that will be modified.

Thanks for your fast answer.

Once again, very slow for poor little me:

I uninstall the game via Stardock Central. It will be completely removed from my system. Then, i reinstall the game via SDC (right click - download) and get the complete updated english verison? Do i have to delete/remove my mods first? Could there be any problems 'cause i'm registered for the german version?

And if i archive the game (Archive app.) i can take the folder out of the archive and burn it on cd?

Sorry that i'm asking those rather obvious questions but i definitely do not want to loose this game in any way. This is why i want to be absolutely sure.

Sound correct to me. The Galciv directory may change. I hope that you aren't on dial up.

Not sure. But make an archive just for the case.

I don't think so: your serial numebr is valid since you are able to dowbload/patch the game. But who knows?

That is my understanding. But it won't install right from the CD. You will need to put the archive back in a stardock central archive folder to reinstall the game. So if you want a complete CD with installation procedure, you should burn stardock central exe on the CD.
