You should look at the record of the number one player, Lothmorg. He can do six gigantic Maso conquests in one day.

There are a number of ways to make your games quicker.
(1) I always use a single governor for all my normal social building. It's not always optimal, but it's good enough and it means that no matter how many planets you have, the game proceeds at the same rate.
(2) I stay out of wars by bribing the AI. Fighting defensive wars is slow.
(3) I keep military spending at zero most of the time. Handling ships is slow.
(4) I don't build starbases for things like construction bonuses and trade bonuses. Building starbases is slow.
(5) I mainly do alliance victories now, but if going for a conquest victory I would either (a) buy up all the influence resource starbases in the galaxy, maximise them, colonise all PQ 10+ stars in the AI's area, and culture flip all their worlds, (b) send out constructors to strategic locations in the galaxy using the waypoint system, then group them into fives and terror star every enemy planet simultaneously, or (c) Build fleets of (mainly) anti-matter missiles and combat transports. When I had enough to conquer an AI, I would send them out and conquer him before he could put up a decent response.

I could never have managed to play at Lothmorg's rate - four gigantic conquests a day on average - but I could certainly have managed three in two days.

Ooh! I'm underlined and bold. That should boost my status.:)

By the way, don't forget that there's nothing to stop a player playing twenty games over a few months, saving them all on the last turn before winning, and then submitting them all on the same day. So you can never be sure if things are as they appear.

I can do an Alliance/Huge/Maso victory in under 2 hours.

No military and no war. Bribe your way to the win.

Oooohhh thats sound like fun!

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I thought this was a game played for fun. The above methods seem boring and mechanistic.

Amen to that! I take my time and immerse myself into the game, really taking time to look at the map, move the most vital ships manually, and overly dote and micromanage the planets a bit too much maybe. Sure, it takes me 8 to 12 hours over several days to play a game, and sometimes I have to adjust for a radically changed diplomatic situation on a reload on a later day and may need to spend extra time re-orienting myself to what the grand plan was the previous session, but at least I enjoy the game! Cranking for points leads to the Dark Side.

It's fun for me. Mainly because I don't have a whole lot of time to spend many hours on a game right now. But I get fun out of it because by going Alliance victory you have a ton of diplomacy and politics and huge balancing act of keeping everyone happy while not getting into any wars. But if you do, you have the economy to pull out the whipping stick and take 'em down. Just a different kind of way to win. Thus why Alliance is an option. You don't win a Alliance victory by going to war a lot! ;)
