Planet score??

How does the little red number next to each planet work?

As far as I can tell the number relates to how wonderful the planet is. i.e. a 28 or 32 planet is a godsend and you better get troops on it fast.

But there seems to be little if any correlation between star systems. i.e. a planet with a score of 20 eventually grows to X population but another planet in another star system might only grow to X/2 while a third planet might grow to X*1.5

Surely two planets with the same score should grow to the same size before stopping regardless of star system?

It depends on which social project you do. The ones that improves the planetclass is:

Soil Enhancement (planetclass increases with 10%)
Habitat Improvement (planetclass increases with 10%)
Terraforming (planetclass increases with 50%)

Have you done the same social projects on those planets?

At the time I was sure that each planet had done the same social project but shouldn't the score of two planets whether before or after social projects yield pretty much the same result?

i.e. if a planet starts at 18 and does Soil Enhancement to get a score of 20, shouldn't the population on that planet be the same as the population on a planet with an original score of 20?

When the original planet does soil enhancement to get a score of 22 then it would yield a higher population but not before?

Perhaps I'm missig something with the planet scoring system. After all having gone through 83% of the techs it seems that getting a planet score above ~40 is extremely unlikely unless there is a utopia social project buried at the end.

The better a planet is, the better its morale is (all other considerations aside). Population growth and production is affected by morale. I think that the highest that you can get to right now is a class 34 planet.

I didn't realize that morale had something to do with population growth..figures though. I've seen some planets starting with a base of 28, so plus soil, ~31, plus habitat would give you ~34, plus terraform would take you potentially to ~51. I've not seen a 51 but I have seen one around 38/42 area.

Dominic,
Are you sure the starting class you are talking about is a 28? I have seen (and Cari has
stated) that the largest (and rarest) starting planet class is 26. So, a base of 26 + soil (at 10%
rounded down) = 28, plus habitat improvement (10%) = 30 (again rounded down) +
terraforming (50%) = 45. (Are all calculations for planet class and population still
being rounded down instead of being rounded to the closest unit?)

Cheers,
Jack

I can't say for sure now. It's possible it was a 26 originally with a soil enhancement. Maybe it was just the font and my bad eyesight ;)
