Help with Minor civs

How does one determine whether a Minor civ is allied with a Major? I have found this out the hard way by declaring war and getting in over my head more than once. Also, how does the numeric military rating of a Minor civ compare to the graphical rating of Majpor civs? Is there some method to compare the two? Thanx in advance for any help.

Good question... But no I don't think there is a way. At least I've never found one.

You can see ALL allies a mayor has in the diplomacy (conversation screen) there are some buttons that provide you with additional Infos. One shows wars, friends and allies
