Dread Lords

I just came across the Dread Lords for the first time. It all went okay to start with. They had huge amounts of money and powerful ships but I had a production base that made it fairly easy to fight back. I was looking set to beat them in a few turns. Then I tried making peace to save the cost of a war. I bought them off with a whole lot of trade goods.
That was all well and good but then I thought I would see if they would give me a little cash too. It turns out that they were happy to give me 130,000 a year for 50 years. The money didn't seem to matter to them once I talked them into making peace.
I won the game on influence the turn after so I don't know if they would have kept paying but just the once was enough to buy lots and lots of goodies.

130,000 a year tribute? Surely that's a bug.

Ack! Why didn't I know about this yesterday? The Draginol popped up on one of my systems - which I invaded and took over the next turn, unfortunately losing 3 star bases to them. If I'd known I could get that much moola from them I'd have tried that.

BTW, before the Draginol popped up, I had gotten a warning about something evil growing in that system. Was there something I could have done to prevent the event?

Abandoning the Colony is the only way I know of to avoid the Dread Lords once you see the message about the impending doom.

Ah, thanks, SLW and Vision of Tomorrow. Next time I get that I'll try saving the game and trying those approaches. BTW, this was on AP. I've played more than 30 games on GC and never hit that event.

If you dont want to lose the colony evacuate almost every one before the event (leave 10 people).

Leave a few AMM missiles (or best ship) around the planet with a combat transport.

Soon as they appear take back the planet, or go to war and then sue for peace for BCs. :)
