Load saved game and restore last civ are not the same

I had to do other stuff for a while and saved and closed Galciv 
or so I thought. I went back in a while later and did 'restore last civ' figuring it would take me back to the saved game. It didn't. It left me several months back at the last time I exited the game.
Using the Load Saved Game, (the crash aside if you do it while in a game), brought me back to where I was when I left the game, i.e. the several months in front of the 'restore last civ'
