Such ordinary friends

Drexel came to visit after twenty years of being chased
through the rock machine in the northwest,
still the pixie rock and roller, still the genius and
talent beyond his years, and it’s ready to come out.
he looks a little torn around the edges, he is a refugee of
the grunge wars, the last of the disaffected, cursing mono-tones
he trusts in the Church of Bob and everything else is just so much shit,
“act like an asshole—be accepted as an equal.” he quotes
it like holy scripture, I thinks it’s a quote of Bob or Bubalu,
I’m not sure,
a reconstituted groupie named Sandy latched her tentacles of
drama around him the first day he was here, he moved in with
her the next day, came back a week later then dove back in—the
deep end,
she hasn’t called the police yet, but he’s only been here a few
weeks, she is holding his guitar hostage, he’s determined not to
fuck her and her patience is wearing thin, I could be wrong,
but I think it’s a given there’ll be broken glass and blood
before he leaves,
I have such ordinary friends.
