Metaverse cheating - multiple 60K games every day

Metaverse cheating - multiple 60K games every day

Look at top players.

A few 60K in one day Gigantic or Huge/Masochistic for example. It takes a few days to finish, and the top player has some days showing he finished 10 or so this kind of games. Every game has the same setting and everything as shown in Metaverse profile.

Is it some kind of Save/Load before winning and multiple submissions to Metaverse bug or something?

This kills the idea of Metaverse, and I think cheaters should be punished.

yes thanks indeed, we'll all be awaiting the final verdict on the state of the metaverse with baited breath, but at least this helps put things back on a more balanced note :)

Brad,

I know that Lothmorg submits games that are near identical in the way they are played every single time - his formula does not really vary at all. Is it possible that this is what happened?

Everyone please see Frogboy's new thread. He has covered all relevant points.

Base on this new thread we can surmise that players who  'legitimately' post multiple 60K games in a day, have nothing to fear from this. However if you do use a 'method' to do this, you should vary it so as not to appear as a 'cheese method'.

Given that GalCiv (base game certainly) has random maps, the odds of two games having identical maps are about zero.

Forgboy, that depends on the seed and other things in the random number generator used to generate the "random maps." If a method is used to always look for similar maps, say centered in the galaxy with a starting Sol of 19+ and a rare, clustered, Huge or larger map, this would limit the amount of randomness to get a playable game for 7 AI and a human player. Each map played with these criteria would look similar, even if not identical. Were in fact, the maps identical, or did they just seem to be very much the same? Was every pattern in each sector compared and verified that they were all identical? I could easily see most, but not necessarily all, sectors being indentical.

I've been playing GalCiv for a little while now and I'm pretty familiar with the way galaxies are created (since I wrote the code). Suffice to say you will nto get the exact same galaxy twice. And yes, we saw identical values.

I guess the problem is with lothmorg, who have submitted 1.13 games at gigantic maso with military vitories. So there isn't any user defined maps in this case. And he constantly get 60K.

BUT all fastly scoring formulas with 60K victories I have seen, involved AP and diplomatic victories.

Is it possible, for our own enlightment, to know, for each of the people whose scores were removed, how many games were found to be cloned?

How many galaxy id are there? I suppose that if someone really get the same galaxy id twice without cheating (on the same computer or with different computers), they should really consider to buy lottery tickets

There is more scrutiny going on here than with questionable statements and events in the actual real world!
The bottom line is: What fun is cheating? For that matter; even if you're not cheating, what fun is the game if you just crank out 60k games with a formula?
I enjoy every turn! I like watching my ships move through space, I like thinking over every turn and having a distinctly different experience every time I play. I didn't spend my money on the game simply to let it play by itself with only minimal input from me.
Some people are just missing all the fun.

Well I guess you were onto something there. ;p

I hope the fact that the rest of us are still on the metaverse means that we have been cleared of any cheating.

I admit I use the same tactics: kill Torians 1st, kill Altarians 2nd , kill Drath 3rd then worry about the rest.

It may be cheese but the Torians are the biggest backstabbing cockroach eating scum I have ever seen. >:(

wot happens if you choose to play several 'different' games off one 'saved starting position'?...not that i have. i iz useless. but i iz thinkin'...

:notsure:

Do you mean by using "ctrl N"?

If not then I can only think you could only submit that game twice and anymore would not show up.

This is what Frogboy has implied some have done.

You can only post the map the once. If you submitted the same map again you would just overwright the original posted score. If you wish to post scores to the metaverse you need to submit new games each time using new maps. Do not alter the savegame as this appears to have been the case for the players in question.

Hope that clarifies things
