System requirements

I recently downgraded my work-pc to the company standard platform (WinNT) and decided to test GalCiv on in even tho the system requirements (from the Strategy First website) doesnt mention WinNT..

Game launches fine and is playable, but it seems like it doesnt like my soundcard.

Debug Message: Initializing sound card.
Debug Message: Error with CreateSoundBuffer: Error Code 87
ASSERT ERROR in file g:\projects\pear\source\digimix3.cpp at line 912.

Debug Message: Initialize Game Options.
Debug Message: Attempt to play unregistered file

Debug Message: Reading Star Names
Debug Message: Attempt to play unregistered file

But apart from that it runs fine on my WinNT. Would work with another soundcard/driver I guess..

Last I heard, the system requirements are Win32, PII-266, 64MB RAM.

Interestingly enough, though, I have been running it for a while on a P-200 MMX with 48MB RAM (just upgraded to 80), so....

PII 300 MHz Processor, 128 MB RAM, 600 MB Hard Disk Space, DirectX 7.0 Compatible Video Card with 4 MB VRAM and Monitor capable of supporting 1024x768 resolution.

Yay! All kinds of requirements I don't meet and thus aren't 'minimum.' ;p

Fredrik, so what version of DirectX do you have installed?

If I remember correctly, NT had trouble in general with games because the drivers weren't as good, or something like that...

The last NT4 Service Pack installs DirectX 3.1a, IIRC.

Later versions can be installed, NT's just hardcoded not to start them, because part of the NT subsystem doesn't work very well with them.

Ouch. Yeah, the Music requires at least DirectX 7, but the graphics can run with a lower version.

Can you play it at home?

Hehe yeah, sure, I have XP there. So I'm glad anyway :)

Was more surprised that the game started at all on WinNT, knowing it's not the best platform for games :)
