New Multimedia Pack: Relative Merits and Offline Download?

Just wondering if I could get a general consensus about the new multimedia pack - its a whopping 366Mb (according to Stardock Central) and I want to download it at my work (10Mbps connections rock) rather than home (56kbps connections SUCK).

I am wondering what are the relative merits of the upgrade, and most importantly, if it's worth it, can I get the files "offline" - i.e. download just the MM files at work, where I don't have GalCiv installed, burn them on to CD, and take it home to incorporate in to my installation of GalCiv at home.

Any ideas?

What pack are you talking about? What version is it? The only thing I downloaded that big was the program itself. I must be missing something here.

When I downloaded from SDC, the program was ~88MB, and the MM files were 366MB.

I got the impression the multimedia pack was included in the 1.04 standalone, as after I applied the latter SDC didn't give me the 'download' button for the multimedia pack.
If I'm correct, just download the standalone, as its MUCH less than 366 Mb (must be the zipping).

Just to clear it up, I bit the bullet and started downloading the Multimedia pack (which STILL reported 366Mb) over my modem at home.

As a bit of history, I downloaded GalCiv direct from the web over my work 10Mbit connection 1 day after it was released. I live in Australia - until 2 weeks ago I hadn't seen it in the shops. Way to go - two months early!

The download then had been a couple of hundred megs - sorry, can't remember more than that. I doubt it was > 300 Mb though.

Anyway, back on topic, my current install is 1.05.whatever-is-the-latest and it STILL showed 366Mb of multimedia. I thought this was odd, because I have always had the FMVs of colonising, anomaly investigation, minor race annihilation etc.

I started the download, then headed downstairs to make coffee, watch TV and wait. And wait. However, I forgot my mobile (24 tech support is a bitch) so I headed back and noticed that there was a popup box on my screen - "Multimedia pack has been updated" - it had been all of 2 minutes.

Apparently it reported that there was an update (from 1.0 to 1.0 - strange huh?) and the full size of the files. However, it looks like a tiny inconsistency in SC and updated, probably instantly (after getting the gcmultimedia.xml or whatever header file it needs).

So alls well that ends well. Thanks for the help!
