2K Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive and 3DRealms have announced the re-development of the long rumored shooter. Originally started back in 1995 by Human Head studios, under the supervision of 3DRealms, the game was later put on hold for Duke Nukem Forever, which is still incomplete. It was then confirmed that the game was under development by Human Head once again and that it had been reworked to use the Doom 3 engine. Now, 2K Games will finish the deal off and the game will still be using the Doom 3 engine as previously announced.

"The initial concept for Prey had been incubating for a while, waiting for the right opportunity to come along," said George Broussard, President of 3D Realms. "We jumped at the chance to create this game with a talented developer like Human Head Studios and next-generation technology like the Doom 3 engine."

Scott Miller, CEO of 3D Realms, added, "Prey is special for many reasons, including several new and original gameplay features and a tightly integrated story that packs an emotional punch, unlike other first person shooters."

Prey will be released sometime in 2006 for PC and as-yet-unnamed next-gen consoles.
