What happened to all the skinners? Anything new in the works?

What happened to all the skinners? Anything new in the works?

Not aimed at anyone, just curious, as I'm always anticipating the really creative and excellent skins. I haven't seen any really quality or very creative skins in a very long time. I'm talking along the lines of things like GT3, Antares, Quasar, Transilvania etc. Is anyone working on any skins that are a bit more creative/usable for the near future?

Oh, and for the "flamers"... don't bombard me with nonsense like, "don't complain if you cant create it", as I'm not putting anyone down. I'm a web designer who works constantly, and I don't have the time to do yet more art with WB. Just hoping for some more really quality skins in the near future.

Cheers.

attention span of a gnat?

....what were we talking about ....look at the pretty flowers ....time for a new mousepad ....oreo cookies ....did I go to work today ....wonder how long that poptart's been sitting on my desk ....what were we talking about

It's more like ....put Patrick in the walker ....plays for a bit then starts to fuss ....pick up Patrick and make stupid faces with him in the mirror ....laughs for a bit then starts to fuss .... feed him a bottle ....content look, belch, then starts to fuss ....to the changing table, crack open the diaper, dad starts to fuss, choke, gag reflex. Patrick pees on dad....good shot that one is ....then it's down we both go for a 15-minute nap and up again for more entertainment. Anything and everything I can think of. Thankfully he does sleep through the night.

I started to learm how to make graphics about a year ago, by teaching myself Photoshop, Corell Draw, Paintshop Pro, and whatever else I could get my Hands on. I then began the tedious task of learning SkinStudio. For those of you that are familiar with these programs, you know what it's like to teach yourself graphics by trial and error, tutorials, and alot of reverse engineering. My goal was to release my first blind a week or to two before the premier of Spiderman 2. Unfortunatly, My self skinning and graphics education was put off due to the suicide of my stepfather. I am know continuing to build my skin and am determined to make a quality 1st skin, I guess the morale to my story is that there alot of potential master skinners, but we all start at the beginning, and we all have different ideas about what is quality and what is not. So to all those skinners out there bustin there A$$ to create something unique, Kudos for the effort, and Kudos for the onions it takes to upload essentially a piece of your self to be criticized and complemented by the millions of sharks out there ready to take a bite.

PS: Othergods - What do you mean by the term flamers?

You know what bothers me? What bothers me is that people can't upload because it is missing part they don't use in the first place or didn't wan to skin in the first place.

Why not have a Work In Progress windowblind area. We have said it beofre but it never happened. PLUS, maybe, just maybe, by allowing others to just finish it by uploading the file might be nice.

As for something new, I have been working on my stuff for almost 6 months now and never satified. Been working on an update to Plava by Treetog and still don't like the look I made of it.

Skins based on artists like Modrian (spell?) and Frida Kalo, letters in the alphabet, the Cadlillac Sixteen concept car, MOMO truck rims, a traingle, square and circle, The Flintstones, Architects buildings from Frank Lloyd Wright, Pelli, and Antonio Guadi.

Been working on this for a while

Even DarK LunA
Here is an Object Bar skin using someone elses skin as a template:

Haven't looked at that for months.

Sorry, OtherGods, but you're not right here! Just because you don't appreciate recently uploaded skins, it doesn't mean there has been nothing creative or of quality posted on WC of late. Many great skins have been posted for a wide variety of tastes, and due credit has been given here to just a few of them as a testament to that fact. If what's on offer doesn't appeal to you right now, then come back later and please refrain from generalising that quality, creativity and innovation is lacking, that's only your opinion. The millions of downloads of recent skins clearly suggests otherwise.
Furthermore, I do not skin myself as yet because I lack the necessary tools and experience to do so, but I would love to be able to and have a question. In my travels around the site, I have seen no mention of MS Digital Image Pro 9 as a tool for skin creation, and wonder if it has any practical applications for skinning as I am to receive a copy shortly? Also, I can access a copy of Paintshop Pro 5 and can this be useful as it is an older version than those used by skinners here? Any advice on these will be greatly appreciated, thanks .

Personally I've become very bored with trying to completely finish a WindowBlinds skin. I don't use the Windows taskbar/systray, or startmenu, so I really don't care to skin it.

I'm have a hard time finishing skins as well. I like designing them, making concepts in PhotoShop, but actually assembling them just gets a bit boring for me...

starkers, I believe Digital Image Pro is mainly for working with photographs or (already created) graphics. I don't think you can create new vector or raster graphics with it. You can, however, use that Paintshop Pro 5 to create the graphics necessary for skinning. It's an older version, but it still has the features you would need. You could always upgrade it to a more current version as well. Hope that helps.

vf- nods

Actually I like designing and building, but I won't put it together unless its exceptional.
I just find it hard to please myself, if its not close to perfect it won't exist.

Judging from the reviews I've read, MS Digital Image Pro would be of little if any use to a skinner. PSP is ok, but lacks layer support. Working with layers is not a 'must' but certainly is helpful. You can probably find PSP 6 very cheap, possibly free.

PSP9 has layer support.

If by PSP you mean PaintShopPro, it does, indeed, have layer support. Love it.

oops!... what I meant was PSP 5 has no layer support (in reference to his question) that's why I suggested looking for version 6, where layer support began in PSP (I get the impression he is trying to get by on the cheap right now) ........... I should have added that I highly recommend PSP 8.10, or 9.

Well, here's a link to a free download for a decent graphics program, which also supports layers. http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/index.htm

Many thanks for the help, people, being that I'm relatively new to computing and the concept of skinning, I appreciate it alot.
As for wanting to do it on the cheap, it's a case of having to after not long ago spending Aus$3500 on having a computer built for me from scratch. My wife would not appreciate my spending much of a sum on additional software at this point.
My sister uses Digital Image Pro on numerous kinds of scrapbooking projects and felt the latest version for my birthday could help with my skinning interests. Oh well!
Having said that, I used the link to investigate the free download, thanks ama02, and I'll play with that to see if I have any potential before venturing into more recent versions of PSP. The rest is now up to me, with the help of some tutorials I got from WC. Thanks guys

Doesn't anybody feel that WinCustomize should have a section for Work In Progress skins??? Maybe those who don't finish can be finished by someone else?

Sadly, there is no where to upload such items!!!!
Joe WC does have a section for unfinished work.
The GRAPHICS section [ https://www.wincustomize.com/Skins.aspx?LibID=18 ] is where a lot of skinners upload images, templates, half-done skins, etc. for those that are interested in finishing the work.
Keep in mind of course that the images still belong to the original author and anyone that commits to use or complete the unfinished work should give the proper credits to such author.

Actually that's incorrect......... anything uploaded to the Graphics library becomes public domain, so be careful what you submit.

The fact that this is no longer stated on the new site could be a problem, but that's the way it has always been...

If you do use something from the Graphics library, you really should credit the original author in any case.

I wasnt aware of this. Thanks for clearing it up Koasati

An update for those who replied to my skinning questions:
I just got PSP 5 from a CD that came with a Windows XP magazine and installed it. From initial looks, it seems to have layer support as there is a separate window when first run that has "add -remove layers". If this is the case, I should be able to practice some and acquire some experience with what I have on hand. Cheers guys

well, I stand corrected!! The Graphics gallery it is!!

I should check it out more often. MMaybe I can upload my half done object bar skin?
