Promises, Promises

With The Best of Intentions

I receive a monthly newsletter from a Christian Ministry called the Cast Net.

Below is a blurb from the letter:

A young sailor was proposing to a young lady. “Darling, if you marry me I promise nothing but sunshine. All dark clouds and storms will leave!” The young lady replied, “Just get the ring and the preacher. Forget about the weather report… it is usually wrong.”

How true; think how many times we have made promises to someone who is dear to us in hopes to convince them we will make good our promises.

Seriously, when I was backslidden, I was not even aware I was breaking God's heart, only after he restored me by his grace, did I realize that I had made him such sweet promises and that I had promised I would never depart. Oh so like Peter I was, so full of promises, sitting years later and crying at how much pain experienced I was overwhelmed by the fact that I had actually gone back on a love so wonderful as the love that is in Jesus. Yeah, thanks for that, I am singing and playing guitar here, who knows maybe a song I should write about this, it is so big.
