Beta 1 problems

My survey ship had killed a Yor colony ship, and the diplomacy screen said we were at war. But the little help/advisor dude said the diplomacy screen wasn't useful until I had made contact with someone. I was even able to offer the Yor peace.

It looks like my choice for what to do with the native populace seems to affect every planet in the system, rather than the planet I decided with. (see below why I'm not sure)

When I switched to the first goveernment available other than tinpot dictator (Emperor?), several of my planet's time to build started going up, rather than down.

I switched gov't about the same time I colonized the native planet and let them live as they wanted and got -20% production, so I'm not sure that the native choice affected both colonies in the system... One had been there for a while and had already built several projects.

In another game, the natives lived in underwater domes. There was a typo in this choice asking if I wanted to condence the population, rather than condense.

So far one crash to desktop but the debug file doesn't have anything special. Last two debug lines:
Debug Message: Yor Collective (5): Researching: Alliances
Debug Message: Make Ship Leave Orbit: Brad Version
Nothing out of the ordinary before that.

Autoswitching to the next available ship when the current one runs out of movement points doesn't work very often. Pushing the spacebar to switch to the next one seems to work if I don't want to move one at all, but it didn't occur to me until now to try that with a ship that had already moved. And having too many ships on autopilot doesn't work. (Two seems to be about the limit, and it's not perfect.)

Now some things that bothered me. Autoscroll doesn't function when the mouse is at the top of the screen above the Menu button. Nor does it scroll at the bottom of the screen below the ship/advisor window. I'm willing to accept a little bit of bad scrolling if I miss the button, but when I want to scroll up I move the mouse up a large amount, and it's disconcerting when this doesn't work some of the time.

Making a list of all explored planets available somewhere so I can know whether or not I need to build a colony ship would be nice. And a build queue for social projects is a must. I understand the argument about technology (although I'd like a switch for when I've played ten+ times and know the chart by heart...), but social projects need to be queued.

The advisor meant that until you have encountered a ship of an alien race, you can't have relations with that race. But once you encounter him, you can destroy the ship (thereby declaring war) or you can trade with that civ, etc.

I'm pretty sure that the choices that you make when the event window pops up after colonization only affects that colony.

The Destroy Colony button doesn't work either, at least not that i can tell unless it gradually, very slowly, declines the population on a planet.

The slider for the troop upload on the colony ships and transports is very hard to actually select... the region size might need to be increased.

Cari,

The advisor never changes his (her?) text even when contact with all other races has been made. Perhaps this is just a place holder (other than before contact with at least one race) for the time being?

Cheers,
Jack

Yes, much of the in-game text is there as a place holder until we can go back and fully (and correctly) implement the screens. The advisor is definatly on our list, and will soon give more sensible help while playing the game.
