Geek Personals Sites - An Unfilled Need

Screw eHarmony.com!

Match.com, eHarmony.com, FriendFinder.com... the list goes on and on and on.

All of them are billed as sites to meet the love of your life. They make you answer a million and one odd questions, fill out a dozen info boxes about yourself, ask you to upload a picture, and then fork over a nice sum of cash to actually DO anything with the site. The sites try and match people on any number of different criteria and categories... but one thing none of them do is let you filter based on certain interest categories. With the sites listed above, it's damn near impossible to find other "geeks"

This lacking feature renders these sorts of sites useless to me, and to many other geeks I'd imagine.
The other problem is these sites but up harshly against the general ideal of many geeks that information should be free. Most geeks wouldn't consider paying a monthly fee to get match lists... We're used to Open Source software, free communities etc, so paying for something like this is kinda abrasive to us. Especially when there's virtually no guarantee that it'll work out.

So, my question to you, the geeks of JoeUser, is what would YOU want offered/covered in an online personals site targeted at geeks (of all varieties)?

This could be an interesting business opportunity for you! www.findageekydate.com? I'd sign up in an instant. lol

Most geeks wouldn't "pay" persay...unless it was a minimal fee or maybe if you asked for donations instead? I'm a member of a Christian singles site that's free, but the guy asks for just a few dollars every month to keep his head above water. And I think enough people pay it so that happens.

I met a geeky date on...hmmm...I guess I don't even remember now. He's happily married now and likes to rub other people's faces in it...so he wasn't such a nice geek after all...

Let me know when you've got that singles site up and going.
