Intolerant People

Have you ever seen that bumper sticker, "I Hate Stupid People"? Well I've seen it, and it bothered me. First of all, the person who sported the sticker was stupid (I knew him well). Aside from that it bothered me because I used to be smart, and I too used to deplore stupid people. Now I am stupid and I understand what it's like to be deplored by the people who pick up our slack. It ain't fun living on this side of the tracks.

But that's not my point. I'd like to say that having been on both sides of the matter, I've developed compassion for stupid people because, hey, I've been there. At the same time I wish that the brilliant folks would just slow down for a second and extend a hand to those of us struggling down here. There's nothing more agonizing than trying to have a conversation with a smart person and they do nothing but talk over me and interrupt all of my sentences. They don't listen to a word I say. They talk through me as though they are having some sort of soliloquy. Well it saddens me because one of the greatest things in life we can develop is compassion. These people who think they're better than everyone else...really aren't so great if they have no compassion.

Blessed are the meek and lowly of heart.

Hey, that's me!

Thoughtful blog. God's currently teaching me a lot about criticism and "holier than thou" thinking. Perhaps we attempt to set ourselves apart in order to feel better about who we are.

I like it if someone considers me stupid. It just means they won't be asking me to do a bunch of stuff for them that I really didn't want to do anyway.

Hey Angela! Good thought here!

Have you ever noticed that the reason you saw the bumper sticker in the first place, is because the driver of the car just did something stupid? ;~D

Here, here! I've noticed that not much is required of me nowadays. Being stupid has its privileges.

People who are on top of things definitely bear the brunt of the burden. Maybe that's why smart people find it hard to tolerate others. They work so darn hard ...only for what? More work to do that no one else is capable of doing.
