super evil - little long but valid

I started a new game in Huge galaxy. My first 6 planets I got the 'Improve planet quality' option all 6 times. I could resist as all were 33 - 35%. I ended up with 6 planets 26 - 27 and my screen borders turned blood red. Within 12 turns 4 of 5 AI declared war on me. I held them off for 100 years (starting as the War Party helped). Didn't lose a planet but lost 3 survey ships. When I invaded 1 system, the defenders had a 750 defense bonus to my attact 100. I then realize the game was hopeless.
While I found the war exciting (4 against me), I didn't like the idea that I would never conquer a star system.
Survey ships have too much importance in a huge or greater galaxy. The 1st to be destroyed had offense of 32 and def of 2. Since survey ships are scientific, I perfer more defense anomolies that attack.

It's probably the soldiering anomaly that caused the 750 to 100. It's been nerfed for future versions, and shouldn't appear as often.

Why would upgrading a planet make you evil strange.

I always thought the AI is to quick in declaring war.

"Why would upgrading a planet make you evil strange."

Because you chose to sacrifice the native inhabitants in the name of a better quality environment for your settlers.

"I always thought the AI is to quick in declaring war."

The AI, especially in the current build, has been very quick to declare war but the AI is still pretty rough.

It's not the end that makes you evil, its the path you choose to get there. Picking the planet class upgrade in the earthworms event is using genocide for private gain (or, at least, the gain of your empire). Hence, it is evil.

Right kill the native population is bad.

Hey, I spared the population completely 5 times, was neutral another 3 times and yet my screen went blood red after twice in a row sacrificeing inhabitants out of need to help me win. Overall I'm not so evil but the game seemed to think so YET my alliance with a godd race did not suffer. Think on them apples!

Maybe a single evil deed is remembered more than all those good deeds? You only have to practice genocide once for everyone to hate you.

There are different amounts of evil deeds.

That Hitler guy didn't commit genocide every day either but for some reason people think poorly of him..

If everybody is all "BARNEY" running around hugging each other and you are evil then they should band together to wipe you out.

If you do play evil and some of the Alien Civilizations are be evil as well.

Evil Alien Civilizations should tend to Ally to other Evil Civilizations and together can wipe out all the sub human Alien scum.

"Genocide: 1: The use of deliberate systematic measures (as killing, bodily or mental injury, unlivable conditions, prevention of births) calculated to bring about the extermination of a racial, political, or cultural group or to destroy the language, religion, or culture of a group." Webster's third New International Dictionary - Pub: 1976.

So my dictionary might be a bit dated, but using this definition one could argue that Hitler was commiting genocide from the day he chose to use Jews as his scapegoat. One could also argue that he was committing mass genocide, the eradication of all but the "Arien Race".

Just a thought. And sometimes it is tempting to put too broad an interpretation on a dictionary definition.

So, something I'm not getting is: Are there degrees of evil in the game or are you just evil period?

For instance, destroying that damn city can't be *that* evil can it? Shouldn't leaving the natives be gain me more than clearing some ancient ruins loses me? I'm not trying to be too literal, I'm just trying to determine if the implied differences are real.

I just took a look at the *.event files. The events do have different "morality weights" and the good, neutral, and evil maximums vary considerably. So it may be possible to get hit badly by just one or two evil choices after many "good" choices.

'So, something I'm not getting is: Are there degrees of evil in the game or are you just evil period?'

There are degrees of evil, but in many of the events, the evil choice outweighs the corresponding good one, which, in most cases, does make sense.

Human nature does tend towards the ignoble more often than to the noble.

I tried the reverse and when my morality hit 70, my screen turned silver. However, the 'good' races are still demonic and the 'evil', saintly. In my last game, about 24 turns after siler, a 'good' race declared war on me. an evil race keep offering me 3 battle cruisers every 2 or 3 turns. I kept returning the cruisers and that improved my relations until we became allies. go figure.

I think, some time ago, someone mentioned the strange reversal of the morale of other races and someone at SD had said there was a bug that would be fixed soon. Maybe you should wait for Beta 3 and see if it continues there?

I brought that up first, but it didn't get commented on until the second time it came around.

According to that reply, it was backwards specifially for the Terrans.
