The Easy Come, Easy Go Muse

So much time is wasted
thinking of what
I want to write

picturing the end result

the really good ideas
come at inopportune times

on the toilet
through the intersection
just before orgasm

then
when I finally
get a spare moment
to record
these valuable insights

they go back into
hiding

so do I become an
Artist
and carry all my books
and pencils and be
ready when the
muse pops by

or do I play the
lottery and hope that
the flash and the page
coincide?

It’s like I’m always writing
this solitary monologue

just my hands get
tired and my words
repeat themselves

I can never calm
the restlessness of
thought
vocabulary
curiosity
desire

I used to take the
pencil and pad
to places
where’d I’d be
seen

somehow foolishly
thinking that
a writer
was a rare creature

we’re not rare

most of us
aren’t even talented
too often

we keep at it though
to have something
to show
-modest proof
of our ability,
a legacy of little interest

see what I mean?
I lost it.
The muse went
and hid again.

I’ll just wait.

Fine.
Just stay there in hiding.

Thought I would let you know that there is a writing category now, and there is even a poetry subcategory.

That is a welcome addition indeed.

The muse is a fickle thing. Sometimes I think that the people who read my work don't have the same muse... they always talk about my least favorite work the most.

Tough breaks. I guess it's one of those writer things.

Peace,
