It's all lies

Finn calls me at nine o'clock--a.m.
I don't sleep much only in chunks of
time, then the cuckolds in my mind
demand attention, crying mean little
tunes that end up on paper,
but nine o'clock a.m. is shadow time
and I don't like to get up,
to answer his call I stumbled over a months
worth of trash fall into my chair and grunt,
"yeah?"
"it's all lies," he screams over the phone.
"everything is just shit!"
"ok" is all I can say and hang up.
but now I'm thinking about it,
lies
we're all lies
everyone of us
packaged and repackaged and then again
over an over to meet the moment, we prefer
it,
lies are the foundation of our art, we honor the
distortion, the crooked view, the under-aged fantasies
of cinema and the tease of rapture or cynic pain under
the cover of carefully thought out words, dressed up
in tiny cocktail dresses, fancy wines and cheeses with
village names on gold foil labels,
hell, we honor the best of liars with money and fame
we spiff it up with ceremonies, comedic roasts, national
medals of merit, parties full of celebrities, politicians and
pompous writers in tweed, then we teach our children to
lust for the lies,
yeah Finn, it's all lies.
it's always the sparklies that get you.
