Question about mining resources

Do you have to have a colonized planet in the same sector as the resource in order to get the 'empire wide' bonuses that mining the resource is supposed to give you? Reason I ask this is I am mining two morale resources but I have no planets in the sector. One of my planets is at 43% morale so I deleted both starbases and clicked turn to see what would happen. The morale of the planet was unchanged, still at 43% even though I had deleted two starbases with 37% morale bonuses. I know this is a very simple test and more factors are involved.

As I understand it, you should not have to. But you may have uncovered a bug.

I've noticed that the morale star bases I get seem to have little effect as well. And they are never in the same sector as any of my planets, so that might be the problem.

Was that the same turn you deleted that starbases which you looked at the score in? I have noticed that the game doesn't update those percentages until the next turn.

No, I checked morale, deleted them, pressed turn, and then checked morale again. I am playing v1.05

you need moral buildings to take advantage of the empire wide moral bonus

if you had an Entertainment Net on that colony, you would have see some benefits.

Hmmmmm... Gengsta's explanation makes perfect sense when you think about it. But does this mean you also need to have research labs in order to gain a bonus for mining a research resource?

The planet in question was Earth and it did have a morale boosting building on it.

The morale increase from resources seems to be spread out among the planets in an unknown fashion. I don't know how it works, exactly. I do know that the effect is there overall, as adding to that base will produce great results over time (watch that pop growth take off). Try putting transports loaded with 1000M colonists on a PQ 14 at the beginning of the game and then see what the results are later in colonizing another PQ 14 with the same number of people as your empire morale bonus reaches +50, +100, or even more.
