GalCiv, strategy game of the year???

Havne't played a complete game yet from lack of time lately. Job has me traveling lots in summers.

Played beta 1 and updates. GalCiv is looking pretty damn good. I am having a great time with it. Its buggy on the biggest galaxy but if the bugs get taken care of and the other features they mention put in I think this game could be strategy game of the year. :CONGRAT:

But not of this year. It won't be eligible until it is shipped (next year). (Of course, it will take all honors.)

There is still a chance we will be out this year, if everything works out.

Hamster, If that happens it would make my dream come true!! So I hope your right! I for one will work my ass off to make this game great, if by chance we do win strategy game of the year. I think I will jump around the office like a mad man on fire!!
Thanks for the motivation :-)

Alex,

When I see how much CIV 3 put into graphics at the expense of playability, and with what I have heard about the troubles MOO 3 is having along the same lines, I think GalCiv is a shoe-in for the award, regardless of which year it comes out (the key phrase here is "at the expense of").

Cheers,
Jack

Won't be out this year Alex. Not gonna happen. To get out this year we'd have to be done by September 30. The "Canadian slave pits" (as the graphics team calls their lab since most of them are Canadian -- not sure what they feed them up there) would have to perform miracles.

Even then, there's no substitute for time. I know from Object Desktop's development that the key features will come from users, not us. Our job is to implement the GalCiv design along with improvements from users.

That way, what we actually release isn't a 1.0 but rather a game that's already had the benefit of implementing tons of user suggestions as if it had already been out awhile. ;)

As a marketing ploy, the "on the store shelves" game could be Galactic Civ II, and you could have an electronic only distribution for Version 1.0, and then of course, you'd have to extend the Drengin subscription until the release of II.

Just a thought.
