Yes, Litestep is free. You can get the installer here: http://www.beyondconvention.net/ohussain/lsinstaller/

The only problem I've ever experienced with SD apps and LiteStep had to do with the systray software (MCP system notification area). When I prevented that from loading, no problems with anything.

You will have to be carefull with which LS desktop modules you load. Try to use the most recent releases.

If you have never used LS before, PLEASE read the manuals. This isn't something you can just jump into blindly. It's not hard once you have the basics down.

I haven't been using LS for a while, but I did have some minor conflicts with ObjectDock (fre version) Everything else was no problem, except that iconpackager couldn't seem to change the folders form Windows standard.

iconpackager couldn't seem to change the folders form Windows standard.

The Stardock apps are 'designed' to run within the 'normal' Windows shell.  When Explorer.exe is not loaded and Litestep.exe is in its place there's every chance some functionality will be lost.

Of course....the 'important' bit works just fine....Windowblinds....

The folders not changing was a pretty minor issue to me, I was just trying to answer fudoshi's question.
My biggest "problem" with LS was that I spent too much time messing with it, time that I needed to devote to other things.
I have about a twenty page list of things that I want to learn/keep learning. Until I get that 48 hour day worked out, I'll have to prioritize. Unfortunately, learning LS had to get pushed to the back burner.

It seems to me that the build of litestep referenced in the first reply is kind of unstable. I've used it for a while and sometimes it'll completely freeze when I go into the control panel from the popup, or it'll randomly set the shell back to normal windows.. Has anyone else run up against these problems or found a more up to date build?

Thanks

That's often just your use of Explorer.exe to do your file management....calling it also calls the shell.

Try an alternate file manager and that won't happen...

Powerdesk...or ExplorerPlus ....2 good options...

Alternate shells, alternate file managers......where does it all end?
No good can come of it, I tell you!
