Bugs and reasonable wish lists here please!

I would like to start this out by saying. Great game guys! I love it very much. I have compiled a list of things I found that are bugs(in my opinion) and some stuff I would like to see added later to make the game more enjoyable. Nothing outlandish. Just more streamlined I hope.

I would like to apologize in advance if any of this has been discussed elsewhere. I am sure I will get flamed by someone because I didn’t troll deeply enough before throwing this out there. And anyone else please add to this thread so that we might get some more bugs identified and some reasonable additions thought up.

NOTE: when I mention the word “annoyed” or some other similar word. I DO NOT mean this in a negative way. I only mean I am being distracted from the experience of enjoying this great game.

BUGS AND SUCH:

When I built a star base once in the orbit of a planet, the star base somehow got built in the place of my next ship in turn and the constructor never got used up.

Keep getting a message from the other races that simply says “String not found”

When you get too many abilities in the stats screen, you can no longer the abilities at the end. For example I can no longer see the soldering bonus as it won’t fit in list. Maybe add a scrollbar there.

The military stats under the stats menu is always blank…. Why? Even soldering doesn’t appear there.

OK anyone else get extremely annoyed when at the beginning of EVERY turn you have to go through all of your planets and click next AND the orange text in the bottom right doesn’t go away. I realize you can turn the option off. But you need to see other info besides planet info, such as which ships have been destroyed in the last turn. If you go through every single planet first. The planetary info should be removed. Right?

When I researched star creation. The research news screen that came up was for the Alliances research which I know already got LONG ago in that game.

The following condition definitely and repeatedly leads to a crash of my game. Clicking on the minor races tab in the diplomacy menu when all the minor races have been wiped out and no longer exist.

Get a reproducible instance in which my ship will get infinite turns(the turns will go 1/8, 0/8, -1/8,…..-237/8) if you select one of your ships while it is the computer opponent’s turn and move your ship while it is still the computer’s turn.

My survey ships ALWAYS get the +10 soldering bonus. No other civ bonus. Is this the way it’s supposed to be?

Also my survey ships will get +2 def or +2 att the first time in a game and it will never get the other for the rest of the game. So I either wind up with survey ships with 200 att 1 def or 1 att 200 def. It doesn’t seem to randomize it properly when they pick up a bonus.

I got the blacked out lockup(which seems to be common with others as well) on starting the game after playing for a little and quitting, then reloading it. I fixed the problem by removing my prefs.ini file from my drengin.net/Galciv folder.

There are a LOT of errors in the research discovery news screen text.
I sometimes can’t see all the new improvements if there are more than four or so. It doesn’t scroll down to show them.
In advanced diplomacy under future research options the text looks like this:
“X eno manipulati”
when it should say “Xeno manipulation”
There are many unfinished descriptions of the new tech (in the lower right hand side of the research discovery news screen) as well.

If you have say 20 ships or any number that is enough to make the turns button disappear when listing the ships on the side of the screen, you can NEVER select the bottom ship.

Need to put % in description of stuff. For example: you get an increase of 10 to soldering. Or +10 to movement. (the movement one especially got me exited the first time I played before I realized it was only 10% and not 10 parsecs)

My research news guy doesn’t seem to look any different whether I am evil or good. I could be wrong though. Maybe make it turn more red for evil?

AND THINGS FOR THE WISHLIST.

Multiple save game slots please.

A mouse over (or some way to describe) on new improvements and such in the research screen. It would be nice to see what goodies I will get when I need to choose among the available research options.

A way to find a planet or system by typing in the name.

Display what the buildings do and how much they cost especially in the governor screen. It is quite difficult to figure out what order to build when you don’t know the cost of the building.

Please allow those of us with 21’ monitors to change the resolution so that we can see more onscreen at once. That’s why I forked out the dough for this monitor really.

A way to display the ALL the trade routes on the main menu. Quite difficult to figure out where to put those star bases when you can’t even see the route easily.

MOUSE WHEEL… Need I say more?

Let us remap the keyboard short cuts.

Show the # of turns needed to reach the destination when moving ships about.

Type in the # of colonists and transport peeps. The slide bar gets annoying when you can only select 3 billion people as a minimum.

Well that’s all I have for now.

Good summary list.
FYI all of the bugs have been reported in one thread or another and beta 3 will be out in a week :)

All of these bugs have been reported before, although one of them is a different method of causing it (the negitive movement bug, in this case). Most of your suggestions aren't new either, but a few are.

In the case of the resolution changing, that's probably not goint to be until after GalCiv 1.0 is released. It was mentioned a while ago that too much was designed specifically for that resolution to change it without redoing most of the artwork and interface.

I'll comment specifically on two of the bugs though.

'My survey ships ALWAYS get the +10 soldering bonus. No other civ bonus. Is this the way it’s supposed to be?'

This is a error in the save code that only affects the new anomolies and the 0% research anomolies.

It will work correctly in a new game, so if you play in a galaxy small enough to finish in one session it will work, but once you save and reload, the anomolies revert to pre-beta2A anomolies.

'Also my survey ships will get +2 def or +2 att the first time in a game and it will never get the other for the rest of the game. So I either wind up with survey ships with 200 att 1 def or 1 att 200 def. It doesn’t seem to randomize it properly when they pick up a bonus.'

This is a known oddity. Both types do show up occasionally, but it tends to seed large numbers of one or the other.
