Fredrik,

I don't know if you remember but in January and February I was having a devil of a time because the ISP I was using was a poor one. After I changed to another ISP I got much better performance, with the GalCiv forum server giving me upwards of 18K bytes per second and the game downloads consistantly run at just about 5K/s. (The difference must be because the forum is mostly text and more easily compressed by the dialup adapters and the game downloads are already zipped.)

Anyway, since I changed ISPs I have not seen any degraded data rates and the only time I have seen errors is just after the notices that a new build is available.

Cheers,
Jack

Thanks for the note, but this is for sure not a ISP related error. It's the galciv-server that's responding with an error message instead of serving webpage to me.

"HTTP Error 500-13 - Server too busy"

Background:
The request cannot be processed at this time. The amount of traffic exceeds the Web site's configured capacity."

As you can see it's not that it's slow or anything, its just configured not to accept any more connections.

Fredrik,

Interestingly, the message does not specify which server. There are a lot of them getting from you to Stardock and vise versa.

the HTTP 500-13 error is generated only by a web server. I got the same error on Sunday when trying to connect to www.GalCiv.com.

If any of the hops between Fredrik (or myself) and the GalCiv web server were broken/offline/fubar then you would have received a different error message, one generated by your browser, that sad, in effect, 'you can't get there from here.'

And technicially speaking your statement is correct, that there are a lot of servers between here and there, but the only servers that were probably involved in the converstation between Fredrik's machine and the GalCiv web server were his ISP's authentication server and the GalCiv web server. Everything else between is most likely a router.

Currently WinCustomize.com and GalCiv.com share the same server. WinCustomize.com due to its popularity has been over loading the server at times. There was some problems with this weekend and I suspect those problems also affected this site. We are working on some measures to correct the problem.

Also, why is the scripting server (DGM downloads) not performing/available?
SDS0004... XXXXXXX not found... :(

I saw on Stardock.com that they were moving some T1s. The GalCiv.com site and the Drengin site seemed to be completely down so I assume they were affected by the move.
