RECOMMENDATION: Mark non-implemented techs for Beta Testers

I have noticed that several tech advances in the Beta do not actually do anything yet. I'm not sure if I should be reporting these as bugs at this point, since the tech tree is obviously a work in progress.

To make it easier for Beta testers, could the development team label the tech advances that are not implemented yet? Just a tag in the description like "**NOT IMPLEMENTED YET**" would let us know that a particular tech should not do anything in that release.

Most of the tech tree isn't even in the game and most of the techs in the game don't really do anything yet.

Yes, but it would be nice to know which ones. That way, we'll know which techs to avoid researching while playing and which ones not to report as bugs when they don't work.

This will be less of a problem as Brad is throwing in a bunch of new techs and improvements, and stuff like that this week.

I'm coming into the beta late, so I apologize for resurrecting this month-old thread, but I noticed that some of the techs I was trying to research would never complete. For example, I selected a tech to research that said it would be researched in 1 week. Turn after turn after turn it stayed at 1 week. Never completed. Is this a known problem? Are there some techs that can't be researched?

jmgarth, u need to click the research button (which puts the reseach tech up in the queue at the top) before it'll be researched. took me a while to work ot out to. frogboy has stated it will be fixed into something more intuitive

Evil Roy: I was able to research some techs, so I think I was clicking the research button correctly. I'll try to doublecheck it later tonight.

After playing a lot more, I think Evil Roy was right (of course). I haven't been able to reproduce the symptom I described earlier.

The research screen in Beta 2 really sucks. I read something on the forums about a month back that showed screenshots of a redesigned research screen. I can't remember where I saw it or I would put a link here. I think it may have been one of Brad Wardell's posts.

Don't feel stupid jmgarth, I've seen at least a half-dozen posts from other people who got confused by the exact same feature.

Yes, I hope the research window gets a major overhaul. It appears that the tree has been laid out top to bottom left to right, but then you find techs to the right that are prereqs for techs to the left, which is counter-intuitive. Then there's no way that I've found yet to sort the techs to determine which one you could research fastest. And having to scroll right to see additional techs is a pain - if it has to be scrolled, then if I've already researched miniballs2, lasers2, etc, I'd like to see it come up already scrolled over so that I can see the new techs.

The Tech tree is radically different in beta 3.

Thanks, Brad. Looking forward to Beta 3.

Based on past experience, I know that you and the rest of the Stardock crew really do listen to your users and beta testers.
