Planet List Options

Will there be an option in the planet list window to sort out the developed/undeveloped planets in the star systems I have currently explored. something like a select button that would allow me to sort out the planets that are uncolonized or part of another empire without having to click on each star system on the map....

I figure that is already in the works, but I wanted to mention it.

So far a great game..........Adam

Tytan: if you click on the planet icon on the button bar at the bottom of your screen, it brings up a list of all the planets that you have colonized. When you click on one of the planets, it will then bring up the planet data screen. Then you can scroll through all your colonized planets from either the planet list, which will remain at the right, or the arrow buttons near the bottom of the planet data screen. If you want to see what other planets are in the same star system as one of your colonized planet, you can switch to system list view by clicking on the symbol between the arrows on the planet data screen. Then you can toggle back to the Planet list by clicking on it again.

Eventually, we'll be able to sort the planet list based on population, planet class, etc.

Cari,

Can you give us a complete list of the planned sorts? Then can we add suggestions of sort types we would like added to the list?

Same for the ship list?

Thanks,
Jack

It would be nice to have single button click to sort all the different types of planets that you have found.

One sort I would like to see is to be able to see what each planet is working on in social and miliary from the planet list menu.......It would make a huge difference in the gameplay.

being able to see who is working on what in a spreadsheet fashion makes all the difference in the world.

One other feature that would make the planet list much more usuable is to enable the scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll up and down the list (like you can in a normal window or widget with scroll bars).

I think there are a few other lists that use those tiny arrows for scrolling (such as ships, technologies, etc.) where this functionality would be extremely helpful.

I am also addicted to my scroll wheel. Hopefully we can dream up some nifty function the can be invoked with a wheel click/double-click maybe go to a personalized layout.

All of these ideas sound nice, but what will the sortables be?

the way I would do it is to have a vertical select box at the top of the planet list screen, bordered right and left with two arrows. The select up and down would select the type of sort, and the right and left arrows would pick civilization.
I would sort by quality, by production, by income, by military, by social.

that would cover the most of what I would want.

I am not really as concerned with how the display would work (although the one Tytan mentions looks like it could be expandable to include new sortables). I just want to be sure the sortables includes those named by Tytan plus by name and by morale.

I also want to know if any is not building something...

gherardo,

The sort by military or social projects should answer that, since that would be a content of the field being sorted.

Is there going to be a list of uncolonized and colonized by other civ planets? If so, I'd like to sort by quality and distance from the currently selected (usually colony) ship. Also, it would be good if we could suppress uncolonized planets that are below a certain habitibility (for me 13, but leave it user selectable).

Thanks,

I like Frank's idea, but I think that the minimum class should be selectable during the game. There are a number of morale improvements that should make lower class planets habitable once the research has been completed. At the beginning of a game I might not colonize a class below 15, but later after researching some of the morale boosting techs I might colonize a class 12.

On second thought, I think Frank's idea introduces another capability to planet and ship lists; filtering (E.g., planet class >= 14).

Umm...I suppose that we could make one that builds the list as you explore space and discover the star systems...I'll add it to my list of suggestions.

As for what you can sort on, that will probably also depend on what goes on the final planet list design, because ostensibly you'd be able to sort on anything being displayed on the entry.
