Can we get a "done moving" button?

It would be nice if there was a done moving button to signify that you do not want to take any further actions with a ship even if there are movement points left.

Right now I have a lot of ships. I am trying to set them up in a certain position in my sectors. I do not want to have them guard or on sentry because I would like the option of moving them on my next turn withougt having to hunt them down.

If I don't use up my movement points, I keep having to go over ships that I have already finished moving into position, just to find the few ships I want to make adjustments to.

The done button should not automatically use up my movement points either, because I may want to go bach and make changes to the ones I thought I was done with.

Make sense???

There are options like this in other games that work very well in the situations I'm describing. For instance, the Heros of Might and Magic series has this kind of button.

The space bar.

All in all I think you are talking about the "find" button. Clicking on it is supposed to select the next ship with moves left. The tab key does the same thing. The moves left on the ship you had been on are not used up and "find" should eventually cycle back to it. There has been a bug in the past that would result in the "find" function cycling between the first two ships without going on to any others but I think that has been fixed some time ago.

Ahh, the space bar. Almost as needed, but not quit.

If I use the space bar, this effectively reduces my movement points to 0. I would like the option to change my mind and use the available movement points the ship should have if I find I have a use for the ship in my strategy.

Lucky Jack- I think you missed what I was trying to accomplish with my original post. I don't want to have to cycle through the ships over and over.

For Example- I have a number of ships in a sector and I would like to set up a defensive perimeter while at the same time leaving a couple ships next to my starbase to protect it. I choose two ships to protect my starbase. The other ships in the area, I will use to protect the perimeter of the sector.

I would like to hit a "done" button for the ships next to the starbase, and continue to arrange the ships around the sector's perimeter. Then while cycling through the ships, I don't have to keep seeing the two ships next to the starbase.

Also as ships are placed in a satisfactory position around the perimeter, I can hit the "done" button for them, until I have no more ships to move.

Now, as to why I would like the movement points to remain- Say I noticed a weakness in the perimeter I was setting up. I could then go back to the ships by the starbase and select them and move them to reinforce my perimeter.

This is a basic situation with only a few ships. Now imagine in a huge galaxy with many, many ships. Trying to set up some sort of strategy while haveing to go through all ships over and over again gets annoying. This is currently what I am experiencing in the game I'm playing.

The space bar will help a little, but I will lose the option of going back and using the remaining movement for those ships.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this implimentation exactly what you said you don't want? That is, cycling through the heroes repeadedly until you force it to assume all of the moves have been used up?...

Arturus-

Maybe I'm wrong about HOMM. Haven't played it much since HOMM 3. But I thought there was a button you could press to say you were done with a hero. Then, if you changed your mind, you could go back, select the hero, and use the rest of the hero's movement points.

Age of Wonder II has a "done" button and does exactly what I would like to see. It tells the computer that you are done working with that unit and move to the next. If you happen to cylcle through units it will ingore any you said you were done with. However, if you would like to go back and select that unit, any movement points it had when you selected "done" are still available.

I'll have to check, but IIRC, HoMM3's sleep used up the rest of the turn's movement, them bypassed in future turns until woken. I don't recall anything of the sort in the earlier Heroes games.
