The Hot Coffee mod has caused some more trouble for the Grand Theft Auto publisher Rockstar with the watchdog group The National Institute on Media and the Family joining in on the fight. This marks the third organization or person that has begun to look in on the subject of x-rated mini games that we previously reported on. Democratic Assemblyman Leland Yee started the battle last week, claiming that the ESRB had "failed our parents." The ESRB quickly launched a full investigation into the claims and was yesterday followed by The National Institute on Media and the Family. The investigation is still on-going but Lee hopes the ESRB will give the game an Adults Only rating, the ESRB highest rank.
Gamespot reports that the modder behind Hot Coffee says that his code does not add anything into the game, but instead unlocks code that was already there, and was originally revealed to be on the Playstation 2 version of the game. For those of you catching up the Hot Coffee mod allows players to take part in sexual acts with the protagonist and his girlfriends, something that originally is done with suggestive sounds behind closed doors.
Founder of The National Institute on Media and the Family went on to ask Rockstar "What is your involvement in the production and distribution of pornographic content in your game? What do you know about the 'Hot Coffee' scenes, and what are you doing to inform the public?"
