Prioritizing for Beta 2! PLEASE READ!

Prioritizing for Beta 2! PLEASE READ!

Beta 2 is due early next month and we are going to be prioritizing what to work on.

This is the time to submit what YOU would like to see. No matter how absurd it may seem, feel free to add it. Worst that can happen is that it won't go in.

Pretend that the current beta is GalCiv 1.0 and you bought it at the store. You're thinking "Man, there's not much to it and the visual appearance of it is pretty unremarkable!" Then think of beta 2 as "GalCiv II!" What would you like to see in there that is currently not in there.

Pretend you don't know about all the features scheduled to go in, feel free to suggest things that you know are going to be in there anyway. Feel free to make suggestions that you are almost certain won't be in there.

The goal is to ensure that GalCiv the best strategy game of next year. What do you feel needs to be done?

Dave Rosen, regarding point 5, have you tried adjusting the proportion you're spending on ship building/colonies/research? Try changing the tax & spending rates as well.

In addition to my earlier post, I have this to add: add more randomness/variety! The opposing leaders shouldn't all declare war using the same speal, but should declare war in their own manner Also, add some levity to the game by having the opposing leaders talk to you/insult you in amusing ways ("You whine like an infant klatar when you step on its tail!", "The lamentations of your women remind me of a funny story. Want to hear it?", etc. The game's a little dry right now.

The early game really needs to be fleshed out more. It gets to the midgame(battleship) too quickly. There need to be more techs, and have it cost more to get them. Ship ranges would help alot in slowing the game down early on. It should take a good 50-100 turns to get to battleships.

One thing that drives me nuts it's how easy it is to get colony ships built. You would think that a ship that will carry the needed equipment to start a new colony would big and slow and take a longer time to build as with the transports the capacity is rediculos (sorry for the spelling). There should be a maximum on how many troops can be put on these. And also a colony should not be able to build battleships right off the bat they should have to build like a ship yard. Hell I get about 30 or 40 colonies and have them build war ships all the time. because I know the ai is going to attack me sooner or later. Also this has always bugged me about these type of games why the hell does the ai know where i am all the time. They seem to always develop colonies in the direction of where I am. It's like they never go in a different direction. If im in the top left corner and there in the bottom right they seem to setup shop in my direction it's like they know right from the start where my home is. anyways i said my beef for today ;p

I'd like to be able to customize the ships, choosing components, etc... not likely, but it would be cool.

I'd also like if you had stacked ships, wouldn't it make sense if there was one attacking battleship, and you had five defending battle cruisers, you would be able to win? i suppose thats tactical combat, but right now, it just moves left to right, killing all of em, which doens't make sense to me- one on five, the five should be able to win, so long as they're not completely outclassed.

different graphics for the researched tech screen. its all the same bink file of the stargate spinning in circles.

ability to create Scenarios, with set starting positions/populations etc

the cutscenes the wallpapers are from :)

We're increasing the cost of colony ships and making it much more expensive to simply purchase things. It's just been a matter of trying to balance out economies and such.

Regarding the animation, we actually have a lot of stuff that's not in the beta for file size reasons. There's another 200+ megabytes of stuff that we have waiting around until release.

1) Fix bugs....ship menu, stacked ships...also I should not be able to trade with Civs that I'm at War with.

2) Add diplomacy -- reduce military nature of the game...that is, I'm at War almost immediately regardless of what I attempt to negotiate.

3) Improve trade...I could only get 2 trade routes in. And the were for "11"

4) Add wonders...I really like the CivIII/SMAC way these are done.

5) There are a bunch of planetary improvements that seem to be missing from the OS/2 Galciv.
