new to DesktopX HI!

I'm a newbie!!

Hi everybody. I am a confessed newbie to all this stuff. I am really liking the widgets and stuff. Thank you to all you creators. I was wondering if somebody could explain how objects and widgets are different? When I goto the desktop object gallery, the stuff looks very much like widgets. could someone explain to me what the difference is? Thanks!!

A widget is a set of objects made to run by it self. It's sortof a small application. When you download widgets all you need to is run it. (They are exe files) With object you have to import them by using DesktopX.

I think there should just be one format.

I think there should just be one format.

Why? It's two different things. A widget is a complete application. Objects could be just a component. For instance, I made a textobject for DX. It's no use for it as a widget, it wouldn't do much except let you type.

I'm still getting used to it. I've been an Object Desktop user for a long time but I'm a newbie to the object/widget stuff. I've done a crash course this week on objects and widgets and like them very much.

I'm having the same problem.. Im new to all this. I downloaded a cool looking theme, and it saved it as a .zip file. How do i extract it correctly so that I can load it from DestopX? In the folder i see all the image files, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Not much difference anymore except that with a widget you just click on it to open and it will run. An object requires DesktopX to be running for the object to function..a Widget will NOT function if you do not have DesktopX installed on your computer.But..DesktopX doesnt need to be "running " as a Widget only requires the Runtime from DesktopX. The good part is you can simply import and object through DesktopX to your Desktop...Right Click on the Object and " Export " it to the Widget folder. Now it is a widget..and will have the Widget properties like hue slider and transparency.Which as an object..it probably had none of those before. I think eventually they will do away with Objects.

generally you don't extract it per se (following normal extraction = no) - If you use IE then read this: Link it will help. Other troubles? Then you might want to read this one: Link

Want info on how to use some of the programs (simple here's how to apply), then check out Cordelia's Newb articles (quick reference for non newbs also): Link

Other issues? Keep an eye on Corky O. He's been whipping up some excellent tutorials: Link

You need to be in Builder mode - then when you right click on various objects in a theme you can access the full properties.

Also check the documention and any help options.
