The Tip of the Iceberg...

The Tip of the Iceberg...

What the Admins/Moderators do...

Everyone who submits works to Wincustomize.com, or 'needs' to contact an Admin/mod for one reason or another can often assume his/her issue is unique, as it's of importance to his/her enjoyment/participation with the site.

They're not alone.

I have a habit of retaining any/all emails regarding Wincustomize.com....I have a 'folder' in Outlook just for them.

Since March, 2001 and up to June 2005 [more recent aren't moved over yet] I've accumulated 6,589 of them.

All are individually input emails, not auto-generated ones [like you get with an acceptance/rejection], and many have replies and veritable tomes of on-going communications/replies.

That's about 52 months, or 127 emails per month, on average 4 per day, every day, for 4.33 years.

I'm sure if you were to add the 'collections' of other Moderators you'd glean even more..... a lot more.

The Moderators don't post 'State of the nation' or 'what we've been up to' threads as the Site coders/bug hunters do, so I thought it moderately timely to keep people up to speed on the realities of managing a big website, and [maybe even] apologise for some responses going astray, perhaps.

Remember...'ego' is all about 'self' and 'self' is the precursor to 'selfish'.

When it's suggested to "be patient" with regards to the ministrations of the site, remember that even the biggest fish is a tadpole....it's all a matter of Perspective....;)

BTW....eventually the PSD file size limitation will force me to dump it all entirely ..... probably something MS could look into fixing for Longhorn...;)

i don't know about you guys but when i send an email to an admin, i expect it to be dealt with and a response sent back to me before i hit the 'send' button to send the original message on its way. i consider myself a patient man, too actually, i'm shocked you admins and wizops don't check your email every 15 or 20 minutes. and what the heck is this about UK and OZ time? shouldn't everything relative to stardock and wincustomize be conducted as if you're in the US and using US Central Standard Time? how dare you invoke the 'not everyone is american' defense. you guys need to get your priorities straight. answering your wc related email and administering this site should be at the very top of your lists. real life can come after midngith CST. until then, it's all wc, baby! sleep? you don't have time to sleep.

Your right Snidely, I must stay up all night in future  Fuzzy flogs self for being so lazy and selfish...

Heck, if I don't stay up I'll might miss Boss019's next tantrum...

Well said, Snidely...your tongue in cheek sums it up perfectly.

Sad fact is tho...some expect this and more from our admins...next there'll be calls to have chips inserted in their heads so they're tuned into WC/Stardock permanently and never miss a thing. Unrealistic.....well of course it is, but given the remarks and expectations os a few here.....

And Boss, have haemorrhoids...suffer constipation? Certainly seems like it with so much gripe Let me guess. you'd be the one booking the theatre and surgeons to turn our admins into robots

I'm sooo.. confused.

I would like to thank the volunteers for helping in each and every way that they do.

I am a newbie at just over 1 year old, and have already seen a lot of interesting posts, repeated (though valid) questions, and a whole bunch of helpful advice for users - and all of this for the simple reason that some people care.

Thanks for caring, you guys and gals.

I think I'll pop some popcorn, get me a brewski and watch this thread. This is better than WWE Smackdown and Raw put together. I remember a wrestler named "Big Bossman" but don't recall a "new Butch123".

So what's the next match? Mr. Sock-o vs. The Bushwackers

I'm a bit confused...

Boss019 is a Master Appentice yet he is always running his mouth and causing problems.

Yet not to long ago my Appentice status was taken away due to my behavior.

Sorry to bring this subject up but what gives??
not trying to be bad or against you Knona0197 but maybe because even if you think he has a bad behavior, he has very good skins

Kona....it's generally accepted as 'childish' for an Admin to exact 'personal' revenge by 'kicking some arsehole who genuinely deserves it' simply though a 'personal' difference.

If a person's site interaction/contribution is 'generally' positive then isolated 'dummy-spits' are ignored.

Eventually, however, 'ignoring' becomes unworkable.

This is ALL about a bootskin I never saw in the Queue....that received a comment on it that I also never saw saying it was a rip....and an email from Boss019 that I never got....and eventually an email from ShelbyGT that mentioned the 'issue' [no link]...and I went and searched and found it...and dealt with it.

I'm sorry, but I can't change reality.  Those are facts.

Do NOT accuse me or any other Admin of lying, or falsehoods or whatever.  It is insulting at best, and libel at worst.

Thankyou.

not trying to get hard on you or trying to be bad but i get more than 20 emails a day from everybody i know.

i have yahoo, gmail, msn, and AIM so to me that's not a lot but how come its a lot for you?
1 email can mean 2 minutes of time spent or 2 hrs time spent depending on the person's issue. So some days can be as easy as 8 minutes and somedays can as long as 8 hrs.

Most replies are 'short and sweet'....others take hours to compose...as they require 'investigation' and/or 'political correct' wording....so as not to inflame a 'difficult' situation.

The ratio of WC-related emails to others not related is about 2 to 1 or worse.

Some have anything up to a dozen follow-ups/replies.

And I bet 'everyone you know' are not demanding 'why the hell have you not done so-and-so yet?', but are more likely just 'chill, dude...what's happenin'?'....

good lord!! there should be a minimum age or maturity level requirement to post in these forums. all this moaning and groaning about a single bootskin and some site issues. the bootskin has been dealt with already and the site issues are being worked on daily to eliminate those. nothing in life is perfect. get over it! i look forward to seeing your skin sites when they get the traffic wc gets. wc isn't the only site with some issues. there are numerous times da can't be accessed.

Whatever.
You're right, of course.
Excuse me for breathing.
Nice comeback for a 5 year old.

Excuse me while i go out and buy stock in the kleenex co. With boss carrying on like this i could become rich. Hmm or maybe I could just sell him some cheese to go with his whine?

Seriously, THANKS to all, especially the volunteers, yes we (I) don't always say so but your hard work and dedication to this site is to be admired.
that would rule you out as wel Snidely...why are you making such a problem about people discussing wc issues, we're not hurting anyone...u sure ur name shouldn't be starting with Mrs. instead of Mr. ?? u sure complain like one...

An important point to remember ('Boss' 'n likeminded)...the admins and moderators, etc, all have gainful employment or businesses to run. Without these necessary activities outside of WC, they'd not have the resources to perform the tasks....hence, no admins....no admins, WC comes to a standstill or ceases to exist.

These admirable people juggle many aspects into their lives: family life; home maintenance; employment/business; travel to &from work; personal skinning projects to be better informed, etc...not to mention vital rest, recreation and sleep.

So let he/she who can juggle all this and do a better WC cast the first stone in criticism, judgement, condemnation.

Oh, I forgot to mention their having to maintain an extremely thick skin in order to responsibly deal with rudeness, arrogance and aggression. That in itself is an admirable quality, and given the time they freely give to be subjected to this petty quibbling, they're heroes rather than villains.

it's a requirement for becoming one i think, not an extra...
but still admirable yes...
which doesn't mean we can't discuss about it....

Discuss?

...by all means, go right ahead.

Whine, Sob, Bitch, Gripe, Enflame, Bait?

...don't bother, you just make yourself look the fool ~and make it difficult on yourself should you have a real problem in the future.

Pity this thread went off track.... [should be edited, and set straight]

I think various people maybe lost sight of what this thread was all about.

I, as an 'admin' of the site thought it politic and timely to explain what goes on behind the 'facade' of respectable harmony that is Wincustomize.com....what helps make it one of the 'nicer' places to be...while donning the odd new skin or two.

This thread was NOT intended as a sounding board for disparate egos of sedition or praise.

It was a simple and gentle reminder to all and sundry that the admins/moderators of the site that by and large maintain harmony and accord be soberly and silently respected for what they chose to give up in their own personal day to day lives....for the betterment of the 'skinning comunity' at large.

Sure it's nice to get supportive comments....but neither the supportive nor the antagonistic were requested.

It's called a 'heads up', a cognitive awakening, nothing more.

Those who chose this as a platform for asinine dissent do themselves no favour.

As one of the 'longer-serving' admins of the site I simply found it appropriate to show public support [myself] for my fellow moderators who, like me have been subjected to unwarranted discourse at various times here.

Having beeen a volunteer in Motor Racing....being both a FIM and FIA official for over a quarter of a century I am well versed in public perceptions of what people tend to take for granted.

Wincustomize's site admins/moderators are NOT to be taken for granted like street furniture.  Without them you would be legless, and posting your works on a personal site...back of Bourke somewhere and famously noticed by the local tumbleweeds.....if you're lucky.

The reality of life at Wincustomize.com is that a private company [Stardock] finances the lion's share of the site to allow its existence, and various people, from coder to eager skin-contributor make it something desirable to be a part of.

The occasional miscreant hell-bent on upsetting the apple cart has no place here, as public opinion will 'demand' a rethink of attitude.

Groucho Marx said "I'd never join a club that would have me as a member"....but the reality is...to be a member you need to pull your weight, bend, rather than break, and strive to fit in.  A club is a collective, not an ego.

Hopefully 'some' of this has made sense, though it's friday night, and those who know me are aware that bodes ill for cognitive thinking...

Thanks [on behalf of all the mods] to all those who have been supportive....[the others I cross off my Xmas list]....
